Wasn't Super Mario Galaxy in a previous poll?

Nope! Apparently not!

This one gave me pause. But in the end, I'm going with Final Fantasy 13-2. It's range of musical stylings as well as its rad battle themes made it stand out for me, even moreso than 13's soundtrack before it. Also someone's gonna have to vote against Hotline Miami! Kidding, of course.

Radiant Historia, unless you're an awful person.

Final Fantasy 13-2, because it gave us Crazy Chocobo

so you think you could ride this chocobo

(also the nier influences are obvious and I love the nier soundtrack so)

Group 4, aka the group that has Hotline Miami.

#6 Posted by Yummylee (21254 posts) -

Hmm, this one comes between Silent Hill: Homecoming and Demon's Souls. I think Homecoming's soundtrack is overall a little better than Shattered Memories at least... If this was between Homecoming and Dark Souls, then Dark Souls would take it. However, for as much as I love Demon's Souls' soundtrack, Homecoming is going to take this one for me.

Super Mario should win this whole thing with ease, and its my vote for this group.

#8 Posted by pyromagnestir (4246 posts) -

Oh boy, this group is pretty loaded...

  • Hotline Miami
  • Fez
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Superbrothers S&S
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Pacman CE DX
  • Shatter

Fuck...That's one game short of a reasonable top ten right there! And I didn't even list Spelunky which ain't too shabby itself, but

#9 Posted by Dalai (6997 posts) -

Sorry, Hotline Miami. I had to vote Mario Galaxy. I'm rooting for you anyway.

#10 Posted by Breadfan (6589 posts) -

Fez, dawg.

#11 Edited by Guesty_01 (339 posts) -

Galaxy, obviously.

#12 Edited by big_jon (5709 posts) -

Everyone is saying it and as much as I love Mass effect 2, Mario Galaxy, and Halo 3's soundtracks I went for hotline Miami here, it's so good. Hell I can even listen to that shit at the gym!

#13 Posted by csl316 (8111 posts) -

Asura's Wrath. I just expected that one to be over the top and nonsensical. But the music gave the game soul.

There were several moments where you're doing insane things, but the music is soft and warm and just beautiful. And that Yasha theme that plays a billion times, it could've played 2 billion times and I'd be fine.

BURST!!

#14 Posted by miikelzelda (25 posts) -

None of the games I voted for in all parters of this poll won, and that's fine I ain't mad and I don't care.

However, how is Skyrim not winning this? We were all, all, walking through the snowy mountaintops of Skyrim in November of 2011, listening to the epic and very passionate score of the game while escaping Ice Trolls and looking for cave entrances. Are you kidding me?

The first time you paused while on your horse's back and opened a book to read it in the middle of snowy nowhere, and the music played in the background while you read the history and ancient legends of the realm?

Heartless bastards!

Radiant Historia had one hell of a soundtrack despite the DS hardware butchering it, the composer also worked on SF2, Xenoblade Chronicles and Kingdom Hearts.

#16 Posted by BisonHero (6172 posts) -

Man, this grouping is super rough compared to some of the other ones.

#17 Posted by MocBucket62 (1153 posts) -

This group might be the hardest to choose from, but I went with Super Mario Galaxy.

#18 Posted by Xymox (2068 posts) -

This is the easiest group, actually, because it's the only one with Hotline Miami in it.

#19 Posted by Video_Game_King (36012 posts) -

Man, this groping is super rough compared to some of the other ones.

Agreed.

Dammit, voted Super Mario Galaxy without noticing Shatter was on there. SMG's a fine soundtrack but there's no risk of it not making it to the next round, so Shatter's the one that needed the support. For those who haven't voted: Hotline Miami and SMG are pretty much through, so vote for a straggler you're rooting for.

Also, vote for Shatter. The soundtrack was written specifically for the game, it wasn't just plucked out of a playlist like Hotline Miami's.

Wow, I was looking for Fez, Hotline Miami, and Halo 3 in the other categories but now I have to pit them against each other!?

It's close, but I've got to say Fez.

#22 Posted by DarthOrange (3851 posts) -

I voted for Uncharted 2 but honestly none of these deserve to win.

#23 Posted by Dragon_Puncher (81 posts) -

It seems like more people need to listen to the Shatter soundtrack, Hotline Maimi is good, but Shatter is on a whole other level.

Bayonetta is tied with Lair and behind Project Diva F?

#25 Posted by BeachThunder (11698 posts) -

The answer for everything is Ghost Trick.

#26 Posted by Hunter5024 (5543 posts) -

Poor Braid.

#27 Posted by SarcasticMudcrab (146 posts) -

I am surprised that 95% of people haven't played super meat boy.

#28 Posted by KaneRobot (1420 posts) -

Hotline Miami is going to win this so I don't need to vote for it like I normally would. Halo 3 is my sentimental favorite. A game I can just let sit on the title screen due to the music.

These threads are the new Hizang.

#30 Posted by Video_Game_King (36012 posts) -

Statistically speaking, 98% of you are horrible people.

I don't know who else voted for it, but I had to throw my support behind Project Diva F. I mean, I can not in good conscience ignore how much I enjoy its soundtrack.

Hotline Miami is cool and all, but I'm not sure how I feel about it blowing everything else away here. It's kind of a one-trick pony in my eyes. Then again, if I had it my way, licensed soundtracks wouldn't even be in contention.

I nominated it and didn't vote for it, but yeah, I love that game's soundtrack as well.

#34 Edited by LackingSaint (1771 posts) -

Let Hotline Miami continue its inevitable steamroll to victory.

#35 Posted by The_Reflection (241 posts) -

If you did not vote Hotline Miami, you are an inhumane monster that I don't want as a part of society.

#36 Edited by s10129107 (1179 posts) -

This is a real tough bracket. Hotline Miami was my #2 next to SUPER MEAT BOY. It hurts to see meat boy lose after getting snubbed in the GOTY music section.

#37 Edited by Flacracker (1597 posts) -

I did not not vote for Hotline Miami because it doesn't hold a candle to anything orchestral like Super Mario Galaxy or Halo 3. Those games soundtracks make Hotline Miami's EDM look like a pile of hot repetitive shit.

#38 Posted by KatyGaGa (274 posts) -

@flacracker: boy, I've never heard orchestral tracks in a game before.

#39 Edited by NMC2008 (1231 posts) -

No Lollipop Chainsaw? That's a shame. Now that I look at this list, there is a metric ton of music missing, I know this is round one but man lol this list should be longer than the male and female character list combined.

Edit: Round 1 Group 4? *sigh* Too bad these weren't sticky'd or something.

I voted for it as well. Recently got the game, and those are my jams.

I love Shatter, but Hotline Miami's music fits the game better than most original soundtracks do, that is to say perfectly. I can't vote based on a distinction that would be invisible if it wasn't pointed out in the game.

Plus I think the Jasper Byrne tracks were original.
