Best Video Game Console of All Time Contest, Giantbomb Votes

I was thinking some contests I use to host at a different website.  It was really popular and a lot of fun.  I was thinking about bringing it to this forum.  It is based on the dual evaluation system.  Part one was a vote includes a listing vote and a scoring system for each vote submitted.  Then the top voted consoles would go onto part two in a bracket contest and players would vote to have which consoles should be eliminated. 

For Round 1, each person needs to list three consoles.  Handhelds are allowed in the contest.  Also, each console must have the ability to swap out games from the game console.   It can come from any generation of gaming consoles.  The first console listed on one's list is provided 5 points, the second console listed is worth 3 points and the third console listed worth 1 point.  The PC is excluded from the list. Only the top 12 consoles will continue onto part two. All the score will be added together.

Here is an example.

The Wii is evaluated at 5 points.  The Xbox360 is evaluated at 3 points.  The Playstation3 is evaluated at 1 point.

People who join Giantbomb after the date march 23 are not allowed in the contest.
Staff Members and Moderators votes quadrouple the score of their list.
People with over 1,000 points have votes that triple the score of their list.
People with over 1000 posts have votes that double the score of their list.

For example, if Jeff was to vote based on my list, the Wii would gain 20 points, The Xbox360 would gain 12  points and the Playstation 3 would be evaluated at 4 points.

A list will be updated daily.  The voting will be closed on march 30th and part two will start on march 31st.

The voting system you have here is pretty stupid. Jeff's vote is not any more important than ours. They should all be equally worth.

Interesting idea, I like it. It's a cool system that's more in depth than a poll would be, and therefore better illustrates the overall opinion of the site and the users. If you're willing to do the number crunching, then I hope this whole thing becomes popular. One thing, though: aren't the numbers a little off? I think they should be closer together, especially if you are using a multiplier for more "prominent" users. Maybe you should cut the numbers in half for the first and second ones, making it 5-2.5-1. I don't think that my opinion is more valid or more representative of the site than others, so if I think that the Game Boy Color is the best system ever, it shouldn't take four people naming something else as their number one to override that. Also, do the multipliers add up? If they do, then it seems like Endogene and I (both moderators with more than 1337 posts and1000 points) decide it all, with the other moderators deciding the rest. This wouldn't be as big a problem if you brought the numbers down.

Well, I don't really like that you are using people's status to determine votes, but, well, I do have over 1337 posts and 1000 points so I do get some benefit. Anyway, here we go:

Boy... it was hard choosing between the Wii and the DS, but I think in the end, the DS just has more games that interest me.  That's not a knock at all at the quality of the Wii, as I absolutely love the Virtual Console and most of the first party games.

As I said in my post, I have no problem using status (I might be biased) as it represents the more active community better, I simply think the numbers are too high. Should my #1 console be awarded 40 points and Karmum's 20? I don't think so. The post count should be lowered to around 500, and the overall points awarded should be lowered so nobody's vote gives on console 40 points. Plus, I wouldn't necessarily say I think the PS2 deserves 40 while the Gamecube deserves only 20. It's much closer than that, so the numbers should reflect it."

One other question, by  "consoles with the ability to swap out games from the console," do you mean to say that we shouldn't give the Wii, for example, merit for the Virtual Console? Should we only consider the games specifically made for the platform, and consider ports at home on their original machine? It doesn't change my answers, but it would be nice to know. Also, do arcade machines count? If you forget about the NEO-GEO home console, the arcade machines could swap out games.

Anyways, it's your deal, so I won't complain if this is the time-tested way of doing things. My rankings:
