Well I actually enjoyed BG+E's gameplay alot, and finished it, where as I gave up Psychonauts somewhere around the end of the first mind.

Psychonauts is one of my favourite games of all time, so the answer is obvious.

I played 'till around half-way through BG&E on PS2--got super busy with other games and lost interest. That said, I just bought it on XBLA, and hope to go through it entirely. Really enjoyed what I played/am currently playing. Sci-fi Zelda, IMO--and that's a lovely thing.

Because liking both games is obviously impossible.

I really like both. If I had to choose, though, I would go with Psychonauts.

But liking both games exactly equally IS impossible. You have to have some preference, it's inherent in the concept of...well, preference.

Though I do agree that comparing games like those two if you actually like both of them is rather unfair, as what I've come to understand BG&E to be is severely different from Psychonauts, and both also released at radically different times. It's like comparing A Link To The Past and Super Mario Brothers 3. And those at least have an advantage of being made by some of the same people!

There should be an option for loving both of them, not just hating both of them...

Fun fact: Beyond Good & Evil on original Xbox was never enabled to work with 360 Backwords Compadabitity. Not that it matters now.

Both are good-but-crazy-overrated but as a game BGE is better.  Psychonauts has much better writing.

Because it sold like 5 copies.  They were giving it away with packs of cheese.

@atomic_dumpling: Thats not really what he is asking, it is possible to like both games but prefer one over the other. I love both of those games but like psychonauts more then Beyond good and evil, which is what he was asking.

Psychonauts doesn't have bad vehicle portions, so I'll give the advantage to that. Love em both though.

I think they are hard to compare as Psychonauts focuses more on platforming whereas Beyond Good and Evil focuses more on exploration and puzzle solving.  But, if I had to choose, I'd choose Beyond Good and Evil as I like that style of game better.  But both are really good.

God this is tough, they are both literally next to eachother on my list of my favourite games of all time, but I suppoooosssseeee.. Psychonauts kind of takes a long rampup before it becomes a genuinely great game, with alot of sort of boring A to B and blandish tutorial stuff, but BG&E gets me right from the go and never really stops. It's a close one, but I have to give it to BG&E.

Giantbomb polls are just fucking AWFUL.

Given that they were both very well received, at least critically, upon release, why can't one enjoy both?

I love them both, but imma have to go with...

BG&E.

Back when these 2 games first came out, i tried them out in demo form and was interested but never pursued. Many years later (Decemeber 2009) during the steam sale, i saw bg+e on sale and wanted it. I missed it tho. So i waited and also remembered pyschonauts too. I knew i was not gunna pay full price for games that one came with cereal(and i missed that chance too, damn). I finally got it in march 2010, And i could not get more then an hour into each before i turned them off. I dont know why, theoretically these games are my type. Good story, descent gameplay and its looks good on pc. So i cant choose between them.

Psychonauts probably, just thought the look of the game, the story, the characters and homour were all really well done. BG&E probably plays better but I just couldn't get that far into it for some reason, I have it on PC so maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

Beyond Good and Evil was kind of like Dead Space: It was a competent and well executed game, but didn't do anything groundbreaking.

Psychonauts was also a well executed game, but was super unique to boot.

I'd say BG&E is the better game, Psychonauts tried a lot of cool stuff and was full of crazy ideas, but the core gameplay was pretty uneven, sometimes it wanted to be a mediocre platformer, sometimes a very good adventure game, then it tried to be an action-adventure and then something else entirely. All this jumping around between genres made it pretty hard to really get into the experience and some parts of it were just plain awful.

Can't compare them so I like both of them.

Now if you wanna compare games let's talk about Solitaire and Need For Speed: Most Wanted.
