Soooo this is a really stupid question but, when a weapon carries an elemental multiplier how does that affect a weapons damage???

that multiplier on the bottom right for elemental effects seems to change how often a given weapon can 'proc' the elemental effect in question.  So an x4 weapon would do its secondary effect almost every shot, where an x1 would only see it semi-regularly.  Obviously with the elemental types, the damage over time effects and explosion is doing a lot of the damage, so the higher that multiplier is the better.  I used mainly an x3 explosive sniper rifle for a loooooot of levels, because that added damage out did almost any other weapon i could find.

Apparently this is a chance to proc not a scaled damage multiplier. So a 2x elemental gun has twice the chance to proc as a 1x elemental gun.

It's all proc chance.  x3 and x4 = guaranteed elemental damage.
