FGC FGC FGC FGC FGC FGC.

Now that that's out of the way...

Brazzer's just announced they are going to sponsor a team of players (with LI Joe as the captain) and host their own tournaments (with brazzers hosted after parties).

I like video games and I like porn, so I'm all for it..

I wonder if it will have any negative ramifications? What you guys think?

http://www.twitch.tv/thisislijoe

LI Joe is talking about it now and talking calls and stuff...

This sounds like the horribly exploitative and gross professional gaming Jeff's always talking about.

Those nerds are going to be really awkward and out of place at a brazzers party.

I guess so?

But hey, they are going to be hosting events, paying out winners, flying players to tournaments.. There are definitely lots of benefits to it.

#7 Posted by Mesoian (1574 posts) -

Yeah...the press is gonna have a field day with this one.

Even if this is kept on a strictly 100% professional level, this is going to pull a huge stigma over the FGC. Plus this DRAMATICALLY tips the finacial scales, I think this is the first sponser who has the ability to literally buy out good players from across the country.

#8 Posted by NegativeCero (3026 posts) -

Makes sense: gamers and porn. Also, FGC is a dumb term.

As long as they are positively supporting the scene then I don't see a problem with it.

At this point, it doesn't seem any different then what monster and red bull do to support esports.

We will just have to see what exactly they do in the future I guess.

#13 Posted by Yummylee (22297 posts) -

Kind of a weird fit for a porno Business to be supporting the idea of Female Genital Cutting.

Fighting game community. Yes, it is a dumb term.

Remember, a few weeks back, how we were talking about how the FGC is alienating to women and has a tinge of misogyny to it? Yeah... about that....

Maybe this will finally pressure Helpful Bus to sponsor me.

Heh, I exit the thread about girl gamers segregation and see this.

I for one am not of the opinion that porn is inherently evil and should be buried deep in the dark recesses of the webs, but the advertisements I have come across for this particular site make it seem overtly and intentionally scuzzy and wonder why is this allowed to happen? Surely it will be squashed before any of this comes to fruition I think.

I REALLY hope they have a plan...

@pyromagnestir: It sounded like they are trying to market BrazzersAfterDark (like some party website..? i dunno) and some social networking site run by brazzers.. They made it sound like there aren't gonna be any hardcore porn ads or anything like that..

Definitely controversial though, that is for sure.

FishStix I believe.

//and to be fair, I don't think anyone is really saying that. Or anyone that actual plays at least..

NoS has hella booth babes, and booth babes are all over E3 and other events..

I agree booth babes are dumb in any form though.

@Keenblaze: @SamFo: A guy who plays fighting games competitively has been joking about getting a Brazzers sponsorship for a few months. Brazzers is an online porn website. At some point, he reached out to the higher-ups at Brazzers and they have decided to sponsor him. Additionally, the company is looking to hold fighting game tournaments and create a team of fighting game players.

I honestly don't know what to think of this deal. I guess investment in the growing industry of competitive fighting game events is a worthwhile cause, but, as Mesoian said, the implications of this deal may put the fighting game community in a negative spotlight only a little while after the dust has settled from Cross Assault.

Obviously the first company I would turn to after having come under heavy scrutiny caused by sexist comments would be Brazzers.

#31 Posted by MikkaQ (10336 posts) -

Well you can't blame Brazzers for recognizing their own audience, especially after that last scandal.

People are making it sound like the fighting game community is a governing body that has decided on this course of action, guys, it is just a couple of players who are seeking some sponsorship. This is in no way representative of that scene.

If the gaming industry start making snide comments about this, thus tarnishing the fighting game community as a whole then it just shows they're terrible "journalists" and should be ashamed for such hyperbole.

I don't see the problem with them sponsoring a team. Brazzers isn't hurting people or breaking the law. Why shouldn't they be allowed to sponsor a team? Don't like Brazzers? Then obviously that wouldn't be the team that you join.

No harm no foul to me. We're in a industry where major publications do a "booth babe" photoset during trade shows and one the largest gaming outlets runs a feature called "Babe of the Week". Let's not pretend that video games are this high brow medium and lets not pretend that Brazzers sponsoring a team means that there will be naked women running around Evo giving Seth Killian handjobs while he's commentating on a match.

About the op's post, I think being sponsored in this way seriously devalues professional gaming.

Bull-frickin'-horseshit. Or maybe not, I dunno. I just think it's kinda very hilarious that this is a thing. And funnily enough, this isn't the first thread on GB to bear the word Brazzers. There was a thread a couple years ago about a kid who got a trojan virus, and was asking what brazzerstube was. I shit you not. Promptly locked, and I'm probably the only person who remembers it. Man, this is bizarre.

#43 Posted by Mesoian (1574 posts) -

The games media outlets don't seem to have caught on yet. If you though the CrossCounter harrassment stuff was bad, wait until people find out that people in the FGC want to be sponsered by a website that has a section dedicated to making movies about rape. Fake rape, of course, but rape none the less.

I'm listening to LIJoe talk in the chat right now and it reminds me of kids who are courted by the NCAA, eyes wide and salvating at the prospects of bigger things, but not watching the baseball bat hovering inches above their head.

I suppose. I know one guy got sponsored by an electronic cigarette company, so it is not the most far out thing in the world.

However, I imagine the kind of furor that would happen if a sports team or a NASCAR car got sponsored by a group like Brazzers. I imagine there would be a pretty bad reaction from certain groups.

#45 Posted by crusader8463 (14427 posts) -

I don't know what ether of those two things are and I'm too tired right now to google them. So now that that has been said, this is a travesty and I for one hope someone starts a petition to stop it in the near future.

#46 Posted by Sauson (561 posts) -

I'm not surprised this is being blown out of proportion. I just don't see how this is a bad thing. They're supporting players and more tournaments and they're not going to putting up adult content of streams and there are not going to pornstars at the brazzers tournment, they realize tournaments are for all ages.

It is pretty hilarious, but this is literally one, or a few guys doing this, out of thousands in the community. I swear a lot of people actually think the community have weekly meetings and decide on stuff like this. The big daddy in the fighting game community is Evo and I'm pretty sure this Brazzers thing has nothing to do with that.

Truth. Think about the people who throw a fit because godaddy.com sponsers nascar drivers based solely on how they portray women in their ads, which honestly isn't that bad. Now think about some of the stuff of Brazzers. It's quite possibly the worst PR you could ask for in this country. It'd be hard to think of a worse sponsership. Phillip Morris maybe...

By the way, how can people get upset about Brazzers when you play games where robots have cameltoes and bust size is increased every game? Yep, Mass Effect.

Gaming is pretty sleazy when it comes to women, there's so many examples.
