Brian was one of the best people at gamespot of those who were left, but I MUCH rather see Rich Gallup or Carrie Gouskos join the GB than him. I just don't see him as a GB kind of guy. He is more suited for ESPN or something more "serious".
Brian Ekberg is leaving Gamespot. Anyone cares?
On Twitter Ekberg said he'd be visiting the Whiskey offices on Monday. Probably just a visit though. Any word on where he's going? Maybe 1UP? They lost all their sports guys... of course, Ekberg did much more than just sports. Nevertheless.
" Too bad. He was one of my favorites of those still at Gamespot. Now Tom McShea is the only personality at Gamespot that's worth following. Him and maybe Kevin van Ord. "I've got to say, Tom McShea seems like a huge dick...

Also, 1up didn't "lose" their sports section, they canned them (I think they were all freelance anyway) because the sports blog/podcast wasn't getting enough page views - so they are not likely to hire anyone else.
VG press veterans very rarely move between sites - usually they move to different jobs in the industry, community manager, producer, etc
" @chogi said:Holy shit, completely forgot about that." Vinny and Brian Eckberg together is always a good combination in the old hotspot episodes. "Oh the Las Wampas episode was the best Hotspot episode ever. "
Best of luck to the Meckberg. He was the last personality left in my opinion.
It would be cool to see him join GB as a sports editor, but I think that he would be a bit of an outcast. From what I heard on podcasts and such, the GB crew doesn't really care for sports games which would make the addition of one seem weird. Also, if you don't like that GB doesn't have a lot about sports games, you can create/edit/review a sport's game page. That's what GB wanted in the first place, a gaming web-site with a strong emphasis on community participation. Brian was a pretty cool dude and I hope where ever he goes that it suits him well. As many here I also stopped going to Gamespot and will from time to time go to check out their reviews on big games or e3 coverage. I don't really have any dislike for the site, I just lost interest after a while. Beardwatch!

Carrie joining GB would be awesome!
Funny, I really liked GameSpot until they offed Jeff, then immediately deleted it from my life and browser, yet I have no idea who Ekberg is. Probably has to do with my apathy towards sports and sports games, but either way I'm still looking forward to listening to the Bombcast; special guests who aren't annoying bitches are alright by me.
Brain was one of the few guys I still cared about at that broken faceless shell of a website.
...No offense.
Not like anything we say would change anything, as it appears as though whatever this mystery job is already has been finalized, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the guy here. Whether its in a permanent capacity or just a guest on a show every now and then, I do miss the guy.
That being said, back in the golden years of GS, I always got the impression that he wasn't really a part of the core crowd internally. Maybe because "sports" is such an outsider word in our industry when you are dealing with a bunch of "gamers", but I would always get the sense that maybe Brian wouldn't exactly drink at the same bars that Jeff and Ryan and the gang must have. But again, this is all just my weird perception.
I'm still holding off for some podcast or something in which everyone just takes the verbal shit on GS that I KNOW must have happened off the record. I understand not being able to talk about it, but I've always been curious to hear the GB folks talk candidly about it. Unless its on one of the podcasts I missed, in which case shoot me a message/link :P
If Brian get's on GB him and Ryan should have a beard-off !!! Brian is great. I'm not into sports games, but many are and they currently can't use GB for their sports game fix.
I've always liked Brian. If you need convincing that he's a personality worth following, check out his self-produced parody show Voices in the Box. He does all the voices. Wherever he ends up, I hope he's given the option to podcast.
I can't help but find everyone's desire to have him join the GB staff kind of funny. When Matt and Brad joined the team, people were quick to complain that all the extra content was just diluting the quality. Yet, strangely enough, as soon as a Gamespot veteran leaves, they want them to join GB. You all do realize that would mean an ever higher quantity of content, right?
Am I the only one who finds this irony kind of funny?
