The only 2013-released games I've finished so far are Bioshock Infinite and Gone Home, so I guess they're my top two.
Calm-before-the-storm GOTY check-in
Dota 2 I guess, Bioshock and Tomb Raider were kind of alright, but mostly this:
1.Nothing
2.Nothing
3.Nothing
4.Nothing
5.Nothing
NOTHING
1. The Last of Us
2. Fire Emblem: Awakening
3. Prison Architect
Those are the only two games I feel strongly for so far. It's understandable; most years the best crop of games don't come out until the very end, and admittedly i've missed most of the standouts of 2013 so far. Also we've got a new console generation coming up very soon, so a lot of developers are a bit busy at the moment. I did also play BioShock: Infinite and Gone Home this year, and while I am a big fan of both I don't think either of them stand up to much scrutiny.
The Walking Dead Season 2 and GTA5 are almost guaranteed to be up there, though.
Well normally by this time of year I've beaten well over 20 games. This year I've only beaten 12 and only 5 were released this year. Of those (God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgement, Marvel Heroes, Metal Gear Rising, Bioshock Infinite, and Dead Space 3) the only one that I would consider GOTY worthy would be Bioshock.
On my Gamefly queue is Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, The Last of Us, Remember Me, Lost Planet 3, and Killer is Dead. I also am in the process of playing Tomb Raider.
And waiting for a good Steam sale are Gone Home, Papers, Please, DMC, and Prison Architect.
So right now Bioshock Infinite would be the sole member of my GOTY list. Hopefully one of those numerous other games will also make it on there though I'd be surprised if any dethroned it. Also looking forward to Beyond, The Puppeteer, and Rain.

1. The Last of Us
2. Ni No Kuni
3. Bioshock Infinite
4. Metro Last Light
5. Guacamelee
6. Tomb Raider
7. Hotline Miami
GTA V and Battlefield 4 will probably get in there, as well as Dragon's Crown (5 hours in, need more time with it).
I always feel Game of the Year stuff is a bit meaningless because games will always be highly subjective and only helps justify your feelings even though you really don't need to. Besides multiplayer focused games I only rarely play games when they are released. I have a personal favourite but I feel it would be meaningless to mention it.
By my count I've finished 18 games that have come out this year, and at this point, my top 5 looks something like this. Comparing this thus-far-5 to last year's final 5 (a futile and largely worthless comparison), I have to say, this has been a pretty strong year for games at the Cajun household. Looking forward to the deluge of late year releases that I will likely not have the funds to keep up with.
1. The Last of Us
2. Bioshock Infinite
3. Probably(hopefully) GTA V
4. Gone Home
5. Splinter Cell: Blacklist
And maybe Amnesia?

Everyone loves Bioshock but me. It's fine but GOTY? Come on.
Good topic OP, but redundant question since we all know the answer anyway...
GTAV
- The Swapper
- Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut
- Bioshock Infinite
- Last Of Us
- Gone Home
- Saints Row IV
- Divekick
- Ni No Kuni
- DmC
- Antichamber
#1 & 2 are pretty much set for me as of now. The rest could change a few spots by the end of the year lol
1. The last of us
2. Bioshock infinite
3. Tomb raider
I'm really hoping the new batman game can make it in this list or BF4. But they have to fight with pokemon, and a few indie games.

It's been a great year for games so far, DMC and Tomb Raider didn't even make it into my Top 5 eventhough I greatly enjoyed both of them, while Splinter Cell has the potential to knock SR4 from the fifth spot (haven't finished it yet). In addition to that there still are a lot of potentially great games to come, GTAV and Beyond being the two I'm looking forward to the most.
Kinda shocked to see more people haven't played more games this year. I think its been a pretty damn good year myself.
Oh I've played a bunch this year, they just aren't good enough to be in my top 5.
- SLEEPY DOGS GOTY ALL YEAR EVERY YEAR
It's definitely Giant Bomb's official 2013's 2012 Game of the Year.
I already know it´ll be GTA 5 with The last of us being a close second, and Bioshock infinite on third place.
GTA 5 will be a good game to be the last game i´ll buy for a long time.
I think The Last of Us has a real chance. The reason I would place the Last of Us over Infinite comes down to both gameplay and story. I had way more fun sneaking around and gathering supplies than I did jumping from sky rail to sky rail blasting Patriots in the face with my crow hand. Second, the story in Last of Us made me feel all the emotions. I was happy, mad, sad, and even anxious while I played the game. Bioshock Infinite's story, while interesting, felt like a bit of a cop-out. Ok, the time/space travel stuff was well done but it felt awfully convoluded. As such, I lost the whole "point" of the story near the end. Great twists and turns, but it was not nearly has effective as the Last of Us.
Both games are top shelf entertainment. Gameplay and story in both cases are amazing. However, when it comes to saying which one left me wanting more and simultaneously made me think about the world we live in, I would have to undoubtedly give that crown to the Last of Us. But then again, I love me a good post-apocalyptic story (which both games could feasibly fall into).
Let's see. I guess I will have to go with.. (I am really bad with dates, so if they weren't released this year, ignore 'em)
What I've played this year (in no order).
- Pokemon X
- Last of Us
- Saints Row IV
- Tomb Raider
- Dust (PC)
- DMC
- Splinter Cell
- Rogue Legacy
- GTA V
- Brothers
- Papers Please
- Rayman
- Animal Crossing
- Fire Emblem
- Blood Dragon
- Ni No Kuni
- Gunpoint
- Metro Last Light
- Bioshock Infinnite
- Guacamele
- The Swapper
- Anomaly 2
And as for non 2013 games:
- Dark Souls
- Fallout New Vegas
- Thomas Was Alone
- Stalker: SoC
- Kerbal
- Stronghold
- From Dust
- Legend of Grimrock
- Serious Sam 3
I really liked Metro: Last Light. The Last of Us gets some points for narrative elements, but the game has too many problems with encounters for it to be called my game of the year. Bioshock doesn't really have anything good about it. It's pretty, I guess, although I'm not a huge fan of the semi-marionette art style for the characters. Uh, Blood Dragon was pretty awesome, right?
I guess this has been a pretty shitty year for games.
Weird, I tried to insert on of my lists and it posted it in a jumbled order... So far i have:
- Fire Emblem: Awakening
- The Last of Us
- SolForge
- BioShock Infinite
- Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
- DmC Devil May Cry
- Remember Me
- Mass Effect 3 - Citadel DLC
- Gone Home
- Saints Row IV
I doubt anything is going to be able to dethrone Awakening. It's my second favorite game in my favorite genre.
THIS IS MERELY 5 WORTHY NOMINEES IN THE ORDER I PLAYED THEM, I HAVEN'T CHOSEN YET
Also, maybe Animal Crossing New Leaf. ACNL might easily sneak its way back up there if I get back to playing it every day; I stopped at the end of June because I had some stuff going on, and it's going to be easier to start again now. Looking at the list of games I played in 2013, I really like my odds of having a great list come the end of the year.
So far, nothing blew my mind. Especially not Infinite. It was a great experience, but a poor game. Uneven, semi-useful powers, super tedious/lame Handymen fights, horrible boss fights and odd pacing. All those gameplay twists promised by the earlier demo were tossed in the garbage can too. Still, if I had to make a list, here's what it should be :
1. Ni No Kuni
2. Tomb Raider
3. DmC
4. Rising
5. Last of Us
Of course, all of this will change this holiday.
