for FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOM!

#5 Posted by lucas_kelly (769 posts) -

At the moment yes. I wouldn't use it all the time though, some people are already abusing the privilege.

You can swear?! YES!!

#7 Posted by SarazinRuin (157 posts) -

Wow you act like you have to swear.

#8 Posted by elliooo (293 posts) -

Yep, you guys will notice the lack of filters in these forums. Gee, anyone would think no swearing filters was the best part of Giant Bomb with some of the reactions I'm seeing.

#9 Posted by Derachi (95 posts) -

This would have been a lot simpler if someone had just said no.

Well, now I can express my serious anger when I don't like something to do with games. Should I start with Microsoft's Avatars? Those things look like shi-

Nevermind.

#11 Posted by overkill (58 posts) -

#12 Posted by Lilja (128 posts) -

It's great that you can swear, as long as people keep the usage level down.

#13 Posted by overkill (58 posts) -

orite mods are here .. no more swearing for the sake of swearing , i promise.. :D

#14 Posted by elliooo (293 posts) -

To change your avatar, go to your profile page (by clicking your name in the top-left) then click the 'change icon link' just below the picture of your current avatar, on your profile page. From then on, its pretty self explanatory.

So true

There's no real benefit to swearing, although it can have a positive effect on dramatising or emphasising points, and a negative effect by bringing down the general tone of things.
It might be useful to have a toggleable filter - or a feature where any topic flagged (either automatically or by a user) as being unsuitable in any way, could be indicated by some sort of warning icon in the topic index.

Occasionally a swear word is appropriate, but swearing too much is just... Pointless.

I assume that swearing is allowed to a certain point. When the direct need, should there ever be one, is no longer there I supposed swearing would be bad. Swearing just for the sake of it is, as we all know, pretty stupid. But then again, if someone says something that makes your feelings (positive or negative) well up, I think you are given the privilege to swear. But remember, it is a privilege, and all privileges can be suspended.

#29 Posted by Sentry (4197 posts) -

By asking this question, it shows your... stupidity?

Yes we can

#34 Posted by MB (12081 posts) -

Just because you can swear, doesn't necessarily mean that you should.  You're not going to get in trouble unless it gets really excessive.  That being said...you can usually find ways of expressing your opinion other than swearing.

I hope the site will have a feature such as autoblock on any kind of profanity.

#36 Posted by Mrnitropb (2090 posts) -

My personal rule o thumb for my self, is allowing myself profanities as exclamations, or when trying to make a point in a passionate manner, but only to a limited extent. I try very hard to refrain from actually swearing at a specific user. I may curse, but i wont curse anyone out.
