Cellphones are next-gen?
I don't think it will catch up in the next generation. People still go oooh ahhh at console/PC capabilities. I think Apple will instead create a niche for itself.
" Cell phones the next generation of games, whoever wrote that was probably on acid. "Why? It makes a valid point, a family might buy one system, but every person in that family will have a cellphone.
Couple this with the fact that casual games are extremely popular, and you have a very large and profitable market.
Thtas i phones and i pod touches. Meanwhile most peoples cellphones are as advanced as the stone wheel and are stuck playing 2d space invaders.
"In the year 3000, cell phones will replace all game consoles. Of course, silly! "
In the year 3000 I will be dead and not give a shit.
" In the year 3000, cell phones will replace all game consoles. Of course, silly! "haha, that made me think of a Conan O'Brian skit, "In the year three thousaaaaand."
" @The_Ish said:" @OutOfBounds9000 said:i read i...MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINOOOOOOOOOOOR! "" Hrmmm....New York times write about...that? "Minor article. "
No,THIS IS MINOR!!!!
"Behind the 8 ball" would imply the article is just slightly out of date. It's more like something that would have been written in 2002. They didn't even bother doing the barest of research.
They've completely forgotten the eight years of mobile phone gaming that has already existed, that this industry has been flat for two years now, and the only reason it's enjoying a resurgence is because of smart phones, notably the iPhone and maybe Android Marketplace if Google can get more carriers to carry the OS and phone models that support them. Lumping these devices/OSes into the same category as "cell phones" is irresponsible for any article not in the Editorial section. Normally one could write that off as writing for an audience that doesn't know the space, but all the people who have cell phones reading this have probably run across the games sections on their phones, and encountered the very reason that industry went flat in the first place (confusing and limited UI, no consistency between device and carrier, etc).
The media loves Apple though, always has. And them throwing the gauntlet down on the DSi effectively turned on the bug light for the mosquitoes to converge on. This "article" really felt like a product placement advertisment for iPhone.
Having said that, I had a Touch and now an iPhone, love it, but don't see it replacing the PSP(go) nor DS(i) anytime soon.
