Could it be ? Shenmue 3 at E3 ?!

The rumours of shenmue 3 at E3 are ramping up!

And after the recent pic of Mark Cerny & Yu Suzuki,it looks like Shenmue 3 is maybe going to happen!

What do you guys think?

It's more likely to be the announcement of Shenmue HD, which has been a bit of an open secret for a while now.

Seems Shenmue 1 and possibly 2 are getting the HD treatment for XBLA or disc release.

Do a super low budget sequel using the same engine for XBLA/PSN and I'd still be interested.

...doing an HD re-release that includes a new sequel with the same art is a pretty interesting idea for any game.

Yeah, I'd love an HD collection of the first two with a third done in the original engine. I think it would be near to impossible to do 3 now without starting the whole thing over from scratch. Trying to make a modern sequel would force them to rethink nearly all of the mechanics of the original games.

I'd also take a reboot that just tells the whole story in one whole new game.

If either of these was was a launch title for PS4, I would probably commit to buying one on launch.

My level of excitement for dreamcast-era graphics on a brand new Shenmue 3 would only get that much higher!

As someone who loved the Shenmue series when he was 18 (even played the imported DC copy before the Xbox version came out a year later), I gave up on those games a long time ago.

I'd rather they reboot the franchise and make it less dumb than to have Shenmue III come out.

And it starts again. I won't believe it until i see it with my own eyes. But god damn, i want to believe so hard.

EDIT: Looking at the picture though it might just be Ryo returning for another SEGA racer.

@wjb: I think Shenmue has just the right amount of dumb... It's sad that games like shenmue can't exist anymore, and the yakuza series is nearly not as fun as the shenmue games.

Wasn't there a rumor they are just putting Ryo Hazuki in the next version of DOA5 because they are adding other Virtua Fighter characters as well?

Well Sega would certainly have a bit of a hot mess on their hands if they announced Shenmue 3, or even 1+2HD. But I'm expecting nothing, not even PSO2 news.

@subjugation, @thatdutchguy: For some reason, I read that YouTube as Shenmue HD Tribute meaning there had been a fan HD remake and it got me really excited. Then, I saw it was a music video. Bollocks.

If it's just an HD re-release of Shenmue, I hope it would have Shenmue II too. I've never actually played it.

You know, at this point, I think I would rather Sega just be better about bringing the Yakuza games over to the west. They had been, but, so far as I know, there's still no word on if Yakuza 5 will ever be released in the US.

If this is an HD remake, then that could mean they are gauging interest in the franchise, possibly to see if a third game is worth revisiting.

I also saw a photo of the voice actor in the studio. Don't see him doing that for an HD remake right? Maybe that DOA thing someone mentioned? Or maybe Shenmue 3?!?!

I never played the Shenmue games, so i wouldnt care if a new one was announced.

also you don't just bring up shenmue and don't just have a picture of yu suzuki with cerny and NOT have a shenmue thing in the works

also it makes sense, as the yakuza team (which were originally the shenmue team) i believe are taking a break with yakuza.

This is one of my favorite things on YouTube. Deserves at least ten times the number of views it has.

Anyway, Shenmue III is such a pipe dream, that I'll settle for Cerny and Yu Suzuki working on the OTHER long awaited third entry in a beloved Sega franchise: Outrun 3.

I can't imagine a world in which they make a new Shenmue. That games hasn't been for sale in, like, what? 10 years or so? Nobody would have any idea what it was about. I'm pretty deep into games and even I have no idea what Shenmue is about.

That said.... If they release another Shenmue game even if it is only a re release of 1 and or 2 I will buy it.

Yes the Yakuza games are similar in play style. They are not however as fun or as good a game. Shenmue was really dumb at times but it was literally like you were playing an 80's kung fu movie and it was the shit! Even if I did have to stack boxes and spent more time looking for sailors than hanging out with all the hot chicks practically falling on me.

Damn Shenmue 3 would be pretty ballin, but my sudden outburst of joy would quickly turn to fear of them fucking it up.

The way video games have been going, I'm surprised there's not a kickstarter for a "spiritual successor" to Shenmue where you play as Hyo Razuki and chase the evil Dan Li who killed your mother.

I love Shenmue, but I have to disagree. Yakuza is way better and more fun. I would still love a new Shenmue.

I'm pretty sure Yu Suzuki straight up said he would like to take Shenmue III to Kickstarter.

A HD remake is not enough for me. I'm pretty certain that everyone who is a fan of the games still owns a copy, so why would they pay for it again, when the whole story wasn't even revealed the first time around. Polishing and re-selling an incomplete story driven game is an insult.

There's a lot of mention about kick starter, need I remind people the cost of the the first 2 games? $70 million for the record. There's no way that's going to happen.

The only way forward for me as a fan, is if they made a 3rd one with the same graphics as the other 2, and released all 3 together as a bundle, or maybe combined the first 2 with a new edition for next gen consoles.
