In the begining there was the unreal engine, twas good for a time then came the Cryengine2 (crysis) which desimated all and still to this day has not reached its full potential. However cryteck have announced a new engine imaginatively called the Cryengine3. apparentaly this engine is fully compatible with all platforms and can be scaled to reach full potential on each platform

So what do you think we can expect to see from this engine at its highest end of performance?

No footage yet, expect to see some round about GDC time.

Looking forward to see it in action. The Crytek guys are really good at making impressive engines...

I still say CryEngine 2 wasn't impressive at all.  Just pushed graphics far as opposed to being efficiently programmed.

Hell, half the people who played Crysis and/or Warhead had to tone down the graphics on the Cyrengine 2 to even get the game to run. What developers need to focus on is good, solid engines that run *today's* games on *today's* machines. By making games like Crysis and GTA IV so high-end they eliminate all but the wealthiest computer gamers, they've killed their own success. Why would anyone buy a game and sit on it for 3 years until the tech to run it becomes cheap enough to buy?

Isn't a fan of CryEngine 2 at all. Beautiful graphics, yes, but system requirements are in the sky.

Besides, I think CryEngine 3 is a bit misleading title, since it obviously isn't that big an upgrade now that it will be able to run on the current platforms. Maybe they just fixed CryEngine 2 to make it run efficient and called in 3? Gotta be a PR stunt to get people excited and developers interested, since CryEngine 2 was such a flop.

Bad idea.

Normal computers still can't run Crysis's engine.

Well the idea is hopefully this engine will be better optimized and built for performance which will lead to sales and success.  There's also a marketing push, and maybe they'll try to make the engine better for other developers.  Their goal will be to sell the engine to developers like Epic did with UE3.

Makes sense, striving more for better optimization rather than visuals.
