Their shipping Dante's next year and it looks like their in pre-production on the game based on a job listing found on Linkeldn ( here's the story from IGN). This is unconfirmed, but... come on.
God, they really need to start posting company jobs and not specific game jobs. This leak via job listing thing is becoming all to prevalent these days.
Dead Space 2 Looks To Be In The Works (Who'd Of Thunk It??)
" @HandsomeDead said:I thought Condemned was and I know Dead Space really tried its best to be scary." I wonder if they'll actually make this one scary. "Games are not scary "

tension. "
" @HandsomeDead: It was... tense. "There's not a lot that gets me turning around at 3am in pitch black darkness wondering if someone is behind me.
Condemned's sound design ALONE did that.
Either way, Dead Space 2 was announced a while back, and it's been said a couple of times that they've only been working on concept art and design work while they finished up Dante's Inferno. After Inferno hits, I'm sure they'll be full speed ahead on Dead Space 2...
...and I'll be waiting in anticipation for it. = D
Yeah there is going to be a trilogy, was planned if the first one did well, and dude it's EA they are going to make it a franchise.
I loved that game, my friend and I played through it, And every time we died it was a different animation, So since then whenever he sees me he say's out,
Death, Death and noise!
I guess it all depends on what you're used to. As a long time fan of Silent Hill, Dead Space's flickering lights and loud "ITS SCARY NOW! BOO!" music and moments to me are more cute than scary.
The game does a good job at atmosphere and tension, but scary? As in "entering your dreams" and "not wanting to continue playing"-scary? No. The game is as much a horror game as Resident Evil 4.
Without trying to sound like I'm being overly harsh, I don't think it did a good job of the tension as it had the same tension in every room and in a game which is meant to keep you on your toes, I felt like I knew what to expect in nearly every possible way. It just made everything so samey.
Agreed, the monster encounters are far too regular and far too predictable to add to the tension. I was talking more about the level design, the lighting, the logs, and the general presentation of the ship that is very well done. Add to that the absence of out-of-game elements like HUDs or cutscenes and you get what people like most about the game.
I didn't get around to Dead Space until the middle of this year but I thought it was basically a blatant ripoff of System Shock 2 combined with Doom 3 which was a great thing as SS2 is one of the best games of all time. But yeah - not scary at all (no games are) ... still - I'm very excited considering Electronic Arts finally getting their act together supporting good franchises
