Yay or nay?
Disk swap or no?
It depends on how it's implemented.
Mass Effect 2 kind of did a shitty job with it (disc swapping around for side missions if you don't do them along w/ the plot - which causes plot problems...anyway), mainly in that there were no notices until you went to a random planet, and then suddenly you have to get up, and the missions are 15min long so you'll be swapping back real soon.
LA Noire sounds like it will segmented, and you won't have to go back, so that's fine, doesn't matter. FFXIII never had you going back after a disc swap, again, fine by me.
I feel like this is a trick question. It's not like it's a big deal, but who actually likes doing it?Exactly.

Does ME2 have a bad reputation for this?
With most games (heck, every game I've played) with disc swapping, you have to change it literally once or twice per game. Would I prefer it on 1 Blu-Ray disc? Sure, but there is a certain nostalgia to changing discs for me.
Also a certain terror, because my Final Fantasy VII disc 2 was scratched to hell, and it was hit-and-miss whether it would load particular sequences or not. Sequences immediately after difficult boss fights...
So if it didn't load... I had to do it over again until it did.
GOD DAMN YOU, DEMON'S GATE IN THE TEMPLE OF THE ANCIENTS. I KILLED YOU LITERALLY FOUR TIMES AND YOU REFUSED TO DIE
Why do people make such a big deal about it? I mean are people so lazy they wont reach about 3-5 feet to change a freaking disk.
I've never understood why people complain about this so much. Back in the day I actually got excited by a multi-disc game cause it meant a longer experience. FFVII's four discs got me super excited.
These days I'd rather not have to switch if I don't have to but if i do. Meh. I don't care.
If it's implemented in such a way that you only need to swap between the discs once, I don't mind.
It's if you have to put disc one in again to return to some place where I raise an eyebrow. Dividing chapters, fine, that breaks up the game anyway. If the game just suddenly pauses mid gameplay and wants me to swap discs, I'll get pissed off.
There's only really been a few games where I've had to swap discs. Last one was Dead Space 2, which was roughly half way through the game and it was during a break in the action. Mass Effect 2 was a pain, as you had to insert the disc depending on where you went in the galaxy. In short, as long as it's unobtrusive then it's not a hassle.
I don't mind. It takes all of two seconds and I sit arms length from my console when I play games anyway.
I'll do it if I have to, but L.A. Noire being on one disc is why I bought the PS3 version; having said that it would never be something that would stop me buying a game, I just prefer not to whenever possible.
I don't care, I just want to play my game. It doesn't take much effort to swap a disc. Honestly, I'd almost rather be done with disc all together.
No, I don't like it and would prefer to never do it again. Not because you have to get up and swap discs, but because having multiple discs means you need to take care of more discs and I hate it when I get scratched game discs.
I'm not a fan of it...having said that, you know what else I'm not a fan of? Dualshock 3's.
That's what makes this LA Noire decisions very difficult for me.
Do I play it on the 360 and have to deal with the disk swapping every 10 hours or so, or do I play it on the PS3 and have to deal with the less comfortable controller for 30 hours?
I don't really have any idea which to choose. I'm gonna wing it tomorrow at EB Games.
Brad also said there is a bit of a difference in graphical fidelity, but since my PS3 is just hooked up to my SD TV in my bedroom right now, that's kind of a non-issue for me anyway.
I think swapping disks is outdated and I certainly hope it will be a thing of the past real soon. I can only imagine the reason the result of this poll is the way it is, is because saying you don't like swapping discs is way too much like saying the PS3 is better at something.
