Only when I'm grinding in RPG's I guess which is really telling in itself about that game design choice.

No, never. Frankly, I'm surprised that most did at some point.

There was one time: I muted the "laughing scene" of Final Fantasy X. Yeah, that one.

Rarely, but every once in a while I'll listen to NPR or podcasts. Like when I was grinding through the final achievements of The Saboteur or exploring the island in Test Drive Unlimited 2 (talk about a game you don't need the sound for).

If I'm having to so some grinding in a game of its small events, 2nd play throughs most of the time ill have the volume on the tv waaaaaaaayyyyyy down with podcasts/ tv / SICK WOBBLE BASS playing on my phone through some speakers.

It makes doing the less interesting tasks more bearable but if I'm playing a game for reals its never muted. If anything I need as much noise as possible FROM EVERY DEVICE - ALL THE TIME!
