Do you game on an LCD or Plasma?
I have a 17" Samsung LCD monitor, games look great on it. When I first got the monitor I was amazed at how good Crysis looked on it.
" @Jayge said:Well my real deciding factor was that I got the TV for $800 off because I was working at the store and got a sweet deal with the manager, I got it cost -40%. So. Sweet. It was a display model =P So it was basically new without a box. Those offers don't come by very often." @Oriental_Jams said:To hell with your frugality (yes, I have given up even trying to comment). "" @Jayge said:Key word, frugal. "" @Oriental_Jams said:Well, I cared when I bought mine. Guess the difference was more substantial four years ago though-still no screen issues either so I suppose I'm a lucky exception or Pioneer made some decent sets. "" @jNerd said:That's got jack-shit to do with what he was saying. Nobody (well, nobody frugal) cares about a slightly deeper image to the cost of much faster deaths and a higher likelihood of screen-related complications. "" @Xeiphyer said:Explain why contrast ratios and motion handling still remain better. Sure you get several thousand fewer hours, but I'll probably have upgraded my TV long before it breaks (and it's been going strong for four years now). "" I assume most people use LCDs because they are more popular, however I decided to buy a 65" Plasma for my room because I like how you get the wider and darker shades of black and stuff. The only minor annoyance though is I am so paranoid about burn in. Luckily almost every game I've played doesn't keep the HUD on forever so as long as its not on the screen 24/7 I have no worries. Also I got the "best" brand of plasma to avoid burn in. I sat in the LBP editor for 4 hours and the thermometer was stuck on my screen for a minute, scared me a bit =PSo do you use LCD or Plasma? Would you get a Plasma if you could? I don't regret it, the picture is very sexy looking :) "You realize that Plasma is an inefficient dead technology. Even SOny admitted there failure & has stopped production on Plasma tv's to concentrate on LCD & OLED. Good luck when yer tv breaks in 5 years...... "
Also I got mine from futureshop with a 6 year warrenty, so if I ever break it I get $2500 towards a new TV. So thats sickkk =D
The way faster refresh rate was part of what made me choose plasma, plus the futureshop warrents are fucking expensive but they cover everything and are super hassle free, so since I got mine for free its all good. Also I heard a great trick if you break something on a TV thats not covered, just carefully powersurge the TV because thats usually covered =P
" 46 inch Panasonic 1080p Plasma. Whoever it is that is Plasma's are an inferior technology should educate themselves on the subject. Plasmas are better in some areas then LCDs and likewise LCDs are better in others. Plasmas last a long time and newer ones do not have an issue with burn in. They offer a more realistic color palette and truer blacks. Besides that they have a 480 mhz refresh rate so when I watch sports I have no motion blur. The top of the line LCDs only have 120 mhz with newer versions having 240 mhz. Basically it comes down to the wants of the consumer. I priced TV's for about 6 months before pulling the trigger. Plasma was the clear choice for me. It is in no way an inferior technology and I suggest anyone that thinks that to go to a Best Buy or high end home theatre store and ask what they suggest. I guarantee they will recommend a plasma. "I went to a Best Buy and they said LCD. >.>
I use a Samsung 26" LCD now.
When I went to Best Buy I had already looked online at reviews of small HD LCD televisions, and I had decided on the 26" Samsung. My dad came with me, and he asked one of the guys there all sorts of questions, and one of them was which was better for gaming: LCD or Plasma. The guy said that if you plan to only use the television for gaming that we should go with the LCD.
If he had said Plasma, I wouldn't have cared. I was going to get the Samsung LCD and fuck anyone who was going to tell me otherwise.
I used to have a 30" HD CRT but it died so I bought a 32" LCD (Samsung) and it works well. It's crisper than my CRT since it's fill HD and my previous TV was 720p only, so I am happy. As for the depth of the black-tones, I really haven't noticed a difference. On the other hand, on occasion I have seen my LCD have motion trails, and that was a new experience from my CRT. My TV is on a lot so plasma's shorter life-span was very much a factor in my purchasing decision along side price.
Life span on the plasma I have is 100000 hours. Here's a break down, if I was to have the t.v. on for 8 hours a day (which I don't) that would equal 12500 days or a little over 34 years. So I think it's obvious that people can stop talking bullshit about the life cycle of a plasma. Besides, who the hell is going to go a few years anyway without upgrading their set with how quickly technology is improving?
Both. Xbox 360 on an LCD and PS3 on the Plasma.
I like the Plasma a lot more. Better colours, no "shimmer".
" I use a Sony Bravia LCD 40 or more inches. Try reading about OLED i think they didn't have burn in and could stay on forever "OLEDs are at least another 2 years from being viable for the mass market in anything bigger than the smallest screens, and even then it will probably be another year or two for it to actually be affordable.
" @PureRok: Plasmas don't come that small, so you were told what was basically your only choice. That argument would probably work if I had told the guy which TV I was buying.
@AgnosticJesus: The highest I've seen is 60,000 hours, which is still plenty in my opinion. "
42" LG Scarlett LCD. I'm very proud of my tv. Not because of visual quality. It was first major purchase I have ever made without my parents help. I do all my gaming on it except for PC stuff (I have a decent monitor for that LCD as well). It was a big upgrade over my previous tv (300lbs. toshiba 37" SD TV). That thing was ridiculous to move around and I'm very glad to be rid of it.
Toshiba CRT 30" and sometimes Generic LCD 32"
I'm about to ditch the Toshiba & this Saturday order a brand new Sharp AQUOS 32" on Amazon.
I like smaller TV sets as it makes it easier to move & the price is decent.
24 Inch LG LCD monitor. It was broken when i picked it up for free, opened it, soldered in a new capacitor and viola! Free kick ass monitor...didnt even have to pay for the capacitor!

Would you get a Plasma if you could? I don't regret it, the picture is very sexy looking :) "Yeah i just ordered a LG 50" Plasma, got it a couple of days ago, also posted a pic of it here on GB. But i must say having been used to a Samsung LCD screen, i´m having a hard time adjusting and liking my new Plasma tv.
My basement is dark and has 2 tiny ass windows with a fence infront of them, so I don't get much light into my room so the reflection isn't an issue for me but I know if I play games in the morning I can see my windows clearly in the reflection =P Sorta used to that just from growing up with older tvs and always having the window reflection on them.
Also I was going to buy a 6.1 surround sound klipsch speaker setup for my basement, the top of the line $4000 one. But I was only working seasonal at futureshop and didn't have the cash at the time to buy it all. But damn! the markup on speakers is insane! I was going to get the whole bundle for $1100. Thats cost+10%. Pretty crazy =P I did manage to get one of those $160 monster HD cables with the lifetime warrenty thing for $30 though =P
So yeah.. I have a $600 sub I got for $100 sitting in my basement in a box because I don't have the other speakers =P
