do you guys considered the pokemon jynx as racist at first?

Umm, I never made the connection as a kid. Looking back at it, yes she does bear resemblance to a minstrel or a woman in black face, but still... it's just a game for kids, it's not like they're trying to breed stereotypes into the youth of the world.

It's like popo in Dragon Ball Z. Japanese people don't really consider that racist, hell they still dress up as black face(I saw it on youtube, dunno what the show was).

Yeah I never really thought about it at all as a kid, it's kind of funny looking back at some of the shows you used to watch and seeing how blatantly sexist or racist they were.

Yeah, considering she's pretty much in blackface.  But who cares, it's fucking Pokemon.

I was 8 years old, I had no idea what a blackface was, and by the time I learned I was so used to the Pokemon that I was like "who gives a shit it's just Jynx."

Jynx was always a shitty pokemon anyways, in design and technique.

Don't know shit about Pokemon, but I just googled it and man that's some subliminal racism right there, train them young indeed.

If there were a bunch of them I might consider it racist, but it's one pokemon. Besides, noones complaining about pokemon being yellow, blue, red, green etc, heck even pink. Just black. And yeah, I get the whole blackface thing, if anything it's disrespectful and tactless, not racist though.

As a kid though, I didn't register a thing, I was like "That's Jynx, she's a shit pokemon" I couldn't give two shits the colour of her face whether it's a boot polished white girl or she's naturally that colour.

I'd say it has a look which would appear racist in our culture.
However there doesn't seem to be any malice or harm behind the people who made it. It doesn't strike the same nerve in Japanese culture.
Unlike say, Skids and Mudflap from the new Transformers movie. Two characters that are blatantly racist and made fully knowing that they are horrible stereotypes.

I guess I see where you could think that, and hell maybe it's intentional.  However, as a kid, and even up until this moment, I never thought of it like that.  I always just thought Jynx was a ridiculously designed Pokemon rivaling the likes of Mr. Mime.

Nope, I never made the connection until I saw it online a couple weeks ago. When I was a kid, I did care if a pokemon was black, white, or green, I just wanted to kill (or catch, usually kill) it.

The blackface on Japanese characters like Jynx isn't really an attempt at being racist usually.

It definitely is styled after blackface, but they're doing it for art's sake, not for any reasons of hatred, even if they do have hatred.

Also, has anyone else noticed that Jinx is one of the few pokemon that has breasts?
