Do you perfer Trophies or Acheivments?
Me personally, I can take or leave either of them. I like trophies leveling syestem, but it feel a little better when you get a Acheivment for some reason. I like how MS lets sites track acheivments (like this one here) and I wish SONY would do the same. at the end of the day, both are rather pointless. I may like trophies more if the made them more comparable and Dynamic like they did for Acheivments.
Achievements because they have a numerical value to them and people in general want value that they can see.
I like the concept of Platinum trophies (and furthermore, the fact that you can get Platinum trophies without paid DLC), but "trophy points" and "trophy levels" are needlessly confusing, and trophies are not uniform among all PS3 games. So achievements it is.
I like trophies, the RPG gamer in me giggles when I gain a level on my gamercard.
Though it makes me sad that my old PS3 games don't support them.
Also, in secret, I wish for that one day when I can look at all my trophies in Home, each trophy customized according to which game they're from (it'll never happen)...
That being said, I don't own an XBOX360.
Trophies, if I have to pick, though I don't care for either system much.
The leveling system is nice, you can actually catch up to people who started way earlier than you by going for a handful of the heavier weighted and harder to get gold and platinum trophies instead of just having aa huge number of bronze ones.
I try not to jock ride the staff around here too hard, but Jeff really said it best. Don't remember which podcast it was, but when the question came up, he pretty much says:
"Why should I care about maintaining a high achievement score AND trophy score? I already have a lot of achievements and would rather just make that number larger."
If trophies would have been on board from the start, it wouldn't matter.
Achievements. They started the whole thing and they're in every game. Also, I find that because developers are given the option of deciding which trophies are Bronze, Silver and Gold, your counts could get messed up in relation from game to game. Say, for one game you could have a lot of golds, and another game might have barely any. And then add in the fact that some games don't even have Golds, or even Silvers. It just kind of makes the whole thing unbalanced. Achievements are simple and easy and a numerical system is all that's needed.
I don't have OCD problems or try to get a better score for e-penis...so I don't care. I like both equally.
Neither because in the long run they don't mean shit. What are you going to do in a few generations when the consoles have new rewards systems/Microsoft desides to abandon the achievements system altogether to focus on casual games (incredibly likely, from the way things have been going the past two years)/Sony can no longer afford to compete with Microsoft and shuts down or downgrades the PSN? What, then, will all your boring achievement grinding have been for? Seriously, I know people who won't even CONSIDER playing a game if it doesn't have achievements - I like to call them casual gamers.
Sure, after I beat a game that I really enjoyed I will go back and try to get all the trophies/achievements, but it's because I love the gameplay, not because I want some useless fucking number next to my name. (Infamous and Assassin's Creed 2 are the most recent examples).
Achievements, I feel like I earned something with an achievement. Trophies feel hollow and empty to me, like it wasn't really me who earned it.
Achievements.... The trophy system has some horrible issues...I'm only in single digits (level 9) and I have gained two platinums that have only increased my percentage to the next level by three or so percent.... silly, silly levelling system!
Achievements are awesome!
I Like the "level system" on Trophies better, i like going "i'm level 12. your only level 2" better then going " i have 120 million gamerpoints"
I like Steam achievemnts better..(Especially TF2)
Because it is simpler then trophies and XBL achievements no number no level just achievements.
Don't care foe either but I think Trophies are better because there are enough trophies for the challenge a game approaches. Every 360 games has the same amount of score total and thats just stupid, The challenge is Ninja Gaiden's 2 (1000) is diffrent then Backyard Football's (1000)
achievements for now, but if sony starts giving out more free home items for accomplishing certain trophies i may change my mind
Achievements! Altough I like the crispy sound that comes up when i get a Trophy. And I'd assume maybe the majority of people here that have a gamerscore across from their user-name would say they prefer Achievements. Just a notion.
I've never played on Xbox Live or the Playstation Network before, how do you level up in the trophy system? And what's a high and low example of how many points a certain acheivement is worth?
Apples=apples.
The differences are too superficial for me to waste any mental energy on deciding which one is better.
Achievements no doubt. Everyone I know with a PS3 doesn't give a shit about trophies, but everyone with a 360 is proud of their gamerscore. @Phished0ne: I have the complete opposite opinion.
I only got an Xbox 360 recently (about 4 months ago), while I've had a PS3 for 2 or 3 years. So my multiplatform gaming is usually on the PS3 (Except for some special cases like Bayonetta), which then leads to me having way more trophies/achievement on it than on the 360, so I would say trophies.
