When I get a new game I always jump into the single player portion first, then play some multiplayer. I do this to get achievements and learn how to play.
Do you play the single player or multiplayer part of a game first?
Single player, always, always, always. Always.
Most times I don't even ever play the Multiplayer. CoD 4 for example, never even touched it, not once, not even to try it out.
I'm always hitting up the single-player first. I like to learn a bit about the game before I throw myself to the wolves in multiplayer, well that's if I end up wanting to attempt some multi-player action.
I always start with the single-player portion. And after I either beat it or play it for awhile, I play some of the multiplayer.
I don't even know if I have any multiplayer games. I'm so selfish with my gaming experience I'd rather keep it all to myself. xD /kidding
Now, if I had some friends who were gamers that would be different. As it is now? No point in multiplayer, and even less point in having a multiplayer online game.

"I kind of have to agree on that, if I don't know anyone who is going to be playing this game, that I might be able to team up with, that definitely decreases the likelyhood of me playing multiplayer for long, or at all.

"Wow, multiplayer is what made CoD4 so great. Without MP that game was average at best and even then that is only because it looks so damn good.
I see tons of people playing halo 3 that have never played the campaign.
I always play single player first, even with games like L4D, Counter Strike, and Team Fortress. I do single player to get use to the game mechanics and the controls.
I always start with the single player... If I find that I'm not really enjoying it I'll move onto the multiplayer (e.g. Resistance or Killzone 2).
I always enter the singleplayer and finish it before ever stepping into multiplayer, unless it's a fighting game (even then) or multiplayer based game like Battlefield.
Why would someone skip over the single-player which teaches you how to play the game and just jump into the online stuff where either (a) everyone who played the single-player already are and can kick your ass since they know how to play or (b) only the other folks who skipped the single-player are gathered and are trying to figure things out without having much of a clue? [wow, major run-on]
I start with the Single Player.
The only exception for me was COD4, just because I NEEDED to see what the fuss was about immediately.
It depends on the game.
Usually it single player first but some times i play multi player first.
Perfect example is Sacred 2 for the 360... I've only played multi player because the game is so large i would most likely lose intrest in it after a couple of hours.
It depends on what I'm playing. I usually start with the single player, then jump into the multiplayer. But with some games, I'll jump into the multiplayer first if I've heard it's really good.
