I just plugged in a pair of headphones tonight, the over-the-head variety, and holy guacamole, the sound is amazing! These are pretty cheap, entry-level DJ headphones, and they still made everything awesome. From now on, this is how I will game.
Anyone else?
Do you primarily game with a headset or headphones?
No, not primarily. For my consoles and handhelds I don't use them. When I play on PC, I typically like having headphones, however. Since I play my consoles and handhelds 10:1 over my PC, I guess that means I primarily do not.
I use a pair of Sennheiser PX 100 and when I need a mic I just use the one from my broken Plantronics headset (the mic on it is fine, but one of the speakers in the headset broke a long time ago). I used to use a pair of Sennheiser HD201 but they were too big and kept falling off my head if I tilted my head too much.
Looking at the new PX 100-II I kind of want that because it only has a cord coming out of 1 side, but so expensive =(
I got these cheap $10 speakers I use if it's too hot for headphones or something, but the majority of my time is with headphones.
I prefer speakers because wearing headphones too long starts to hurt my ears. But if I'm playing something where sound cues are really important like Counter-Strike I bust out the headphones.
I usually use my sennheiser hd 202 headphones when im playing on the pc best set of headphones i have ever bought for 20 bucks and i don't really use a mic unless my friends are playing
I don't really have sound on when I'm playing games on my PC. Thats the only thing that I can put headphones into without a lot of effort.
Not any more since I got my 5.1 set up with a silent subwoofer (aka transducer). But sometimes I still do if I don't want to make much noise or if I'm playing competitive online games where I need to hear footsteps and firing direction. I mainly use speakers because I'm too lazy to swap the subwoofer channel with the headphone channel on my bass chair; because once you feel your bass, you won't want it any other way.
I own a pair of Sennheiser HD-595's and a couple Buttkicker Gamer units. You thought headphones were cool before? Wait until you can feel the bass throughout your body while wearing them, and I don't mean those ghetto-ass subwoofer headphones (although I certainly get the appeal).
Everybody should own a Buttkicker, even if you don't use headphones and have a regular audible subwoofer.
No I have surround sound in my room. But when these Psyko Audio headphones release on consoles I'm getting them, they may be expensive but they're better then anything out.
On PC, I always play with headphones since the speakers on my laptop aren't the best and I don't have money for a better sound card or external speakers.
"How is this a yes or no question?
"
EDIT: Unless you are asking if we use either of those or just our speakers. I took it for meaning a headset or a pair of headphones.
This puts me in a precarious spot...
I use both...
Headsets are cheaper, but sometimes if I want to tune everyone out, I use headphones.
Yes I was under the impression that headphones and a headset are the same damn thing...
Anyway... Logitech G35 Headset.
Great headset / headphones.
When I don't feel like wearing the G35 (which is hardly ever) or want some1 else to hear whats pumping I switch over to my Onkyo 7.1 surround.
I use speakers but i have tried headphones and boy do i just love not being able to hear anything but the game/song.
If i actually owned headphones i would use them 100% of the time both console and pc. Since i don't i stick to earbuds on the PC and normal speakers on consoles.
I did when I was in college. Having the sound on full blast while your roommate barely notices that you are in the room is quite helpful.
Only problem: it's hard to accommodate for headsets for online play. I usually had to put one of the headphone's ear pieces to the side of my head so I can have my PS3/360 headset on.
