I pull out my old consoles every once in a while but I usually just play my 360 on my HD TV.
Do you use a standard-def TV for non-HD consoles?
Yes, I have many retro consoles and using my HDTV with them gives me woeful results. I use a Widescreen CRT with them.
I have a HD CRT and I use it for non-HD stuff. Biggest problem I have is underscan, PS2 and Wii stuff is horrible this way. I think one reason I liked Mario Kart Wii is because it didn't have this problem (basically it's rendering higher resolution than most Wii games). Xbox 1 works beautiful this way though.
I veiw everything on an SD TV, seeing as I don't own a HDTV. I'm really paranoid about lag, seeing as the games I play require fast timing, or in the case of Rock Band, near perfect timing, and I don't want anything putting me off. Am I just overreacting? I feel like I can notice lag in smash brothers when I go to my friends house, but he swears I'm making it up.
No.
Everything pre-PSX I emulate on the Wii, which looks very nice. Especially SNES games look awesome on an HDTV with Snes9xGx. Can't wait for Mupen64 and WiiSX to enter Beta.
The Wii itself is connected with the component cables; games that actually use proper 480p look absolutely great; unfortunatly, many games still suffer from horrible over/underscan, which not only makes the games not entirely fullscreen, but also makes them look a lot muddier and uglier than they could be. Even many high-profile games do this, it should be forbidden really.
The PS2 is connected to the TV with an RGB-cable. Looks horrible, but o well.
My TV, unfortunatly, cannot process the PSX-signal through the RGB cable, so I have to switch to composite. PSX games via COMPOSITE cable on a 32" widescreen TV? You wouldn't believe how bad that looks. But, as I said, here's hope the WiiSX guys start making significant progress soon.
