This is the old Doom. Remember this?
This is the old Doom. Remember this?
If you were holding out the vain hope that you'd hear something about Doom 4 at this year's QuakeCon, as I was, you can exhale now. id Software reps mentioned during the kickoff press conference at QuakeCon that the only piece of news they have about the next Doom at this QuakeCon is that the company won't be saying or showing anything about it until next QuakeCon. So come back in a year.

Actually, here's a small piece of news, at least to me: the project is being run by company co-founder Kevin Cloud, who's worked on all id's games going back to the original Doom and Wolfenstein.

That's all. As you were!

So they made an announcement that they're going to make an announcement? If they have a rough idea of what they're going to announce next year, why not just announce it now and let us wait until next year to get some small details on it? You don't have to announce a game with an idea of what it's gonna be like; hell, Square-Enix did that with Dragon Quest VI, and they still haven't released it. *grows angry at Square*

Oh god, just give us Doom already. I can't be the only person tired of hearing Carmack and Hollenshead pimp Rage.

Damn, this is not surprising but still a bummer to hear. Oh well. Also, Doom 3 continues to look pretty good. I have always had faith in that game.

Honestly? Id rather see Monolith try and make the next Doom. Cus everything Doom 3 tried and failed to do FEAR succeeded at.

I wonder if Doom 4 will do what Doom 3 did graphics wise.

Doom 3 was a horror game, and therefore not a proper sequel to Doom. Here's hoping Doom 4 is a return to excessive monster slaying action with a minimum of plot. Come on, ID, I've been waiting since 1994. :(

I'd have been surprised if they actually had shown it.

I'm still butthurt Rage won't have day/night cycle nor modability. I at least hope Doom4 comes with Tech5 mod tools.

Man that Doom 3 screenshot reminded me of just how mindblowing those graphics were at the time.  Heck if that screenhot was for a game releasing this year I wouldn't be too dissapointed.  Just goes to show the power of the original XBOX.

See clip two of this interview video. In Part 3 he mentions low modability of Rage. I'm posting part one right here.

It had better be grades above Doom 3. As an action game I loved it, as a Doom and as a horror game I was thoroughly dissapointed. Then my faith in the series, and in ID was totally shattered when my all-time favorite enemy, the Cacodemon farted at me. Shame.

Hopefully, this will be of a darker tone, less unintentionally comedic, brighter (as in, I can see wtf is supposed to be scaring me) and more playable. As an action games Doom 3 was pretty good, but it felt a little clunky in areas. I have my hopes pinned on Rage, but Doom 4 I will remain cautiously optimistic, ID has been regaining my respect lately.

If Doom continues in the trend of Horror, I'd rather see a different development studio such as Monolith do the job. Doom 3 wasn't all that scary to me where as F.E.A.R. genuinely creeped me out. If they plan on kicking it old school and just kicking some demon ass, then go right ahead id... MAKE MY DAY.

I wonder if the enemies will constantly appear behind and attack, and THEN disappear into ash....

My question, is how much different will Doom 4 gameplay compared to Doom 3?  I am hoping its not a yawning rail shooter style like the last game.
