This will be a little tricky if your outside of the UK, which the vast majority of Bombers are. I've got £430 max. Criteria I'm looking for is:

  • At least 2 GB ram
  •  Ideally 2 GHz cpu or more
  • 15-17 inch screen
  • Not a crappy make, like Acer
  • Windows 7

My current laptop Sony VGN-NR38E has been good, lasted two years. But I feel like it's on it's death bed running Linux with a broken DVD drive meaning I can not reinstall Windows. Cheers

No clue how much that is, cause i'm not from UK, but i'm gonna say, don't go with HP, the support isn't great, and drivers aren't updated very well, if at all.
Also, the recovery drive deleted itself when i tried to use it to restore factory settings, it also deleted everything else, essentially leaving me with a useless laptop until i managed to get windows vista from someone.

@Shirogane: Yeah I've had a HP before, It didn't last very long before it was completely bricked. I'm thinking either Dell, Sony or Samsung

Might I suggest a Lenovo Thinkpad? Excellent build quality. You'll be hard pressed to find a more reliable machine.

Gigahertz haven't meant a damn thing since the Pentium 4.

And you won't be playing any new 3d games on a laptop at that price point, aside from Torchlight.

You know what, you should buy my one! It's a steal! It great if you don't like going outdoors or anywhere that's a meter and a half from a power socket. It's also great if you're favorite game is solitaire! Fun right? Being hard of hearing is also a bonus especially if when you put a disc in the drive, that thing spins so fast I swear it'll send a DVD back in time one of these days.

So what do ya say? Save you're money on some fancy pants shiny thing and grab this great economy model!

Ps. I'll even throw in a little bit of asian porn scattered around the hard drive in all the folders marked 'Tax Returns' and 'Important system files, Do not Touch'.

Urgh, do not buy laptops. Not cheap enough for internet and word processing, not powerful enough for gaming. Buy a really good netbook with that money, or save it for a desktop.
