"Enter your name" - Real or Fake?

So I've been playing a few games today that require you to enter a name before you start playing, in these situations do you put your real name or a fake name?

I usually enter my middle name, unless it's a game like LoZ where there's an established name to the main character.

why do they need your name. Isn't it usually a username?

My real name. Nothing particularly secret about my name.

The games I mentioned was Book Worm and Peggle, it just says enter your name, I was debating whether to put Hizang or my real name.

Often just Tali or Talicia, or variants for a more fantasy themed game.

I usually make up a name. I find it more fun that way.

got a made up name with a made up address for more then ten years now. use it for stuff thats not really all that important. battle.net got my real name for example.

I put in your name.

It depends on what I'm using it for.

I always enter a fictional name. The only times I do not is in the Road to Glory segment of the NCAA Football games.

I usually put my real name. I guess it helps to immerse me in the game more.

Depends on the game, and if it changes dialogue.

I used to always put my real name on but now I try to make up funny names so that I can see them used in serious dialogue/text

I use my name in every video game, unless I'm using a female character.

If I'm playing as an empty template I use my own name, otherwise who knows.

I like making non serious names for non serious games, especially if they state your name ALOT in game, for example I name Link 'OR DIE' in OoZ.

Often just Tali or Talicia, or variants for a more fantasy themed game.

In games, I'll give my real name if it's not going to be blurted out onto the interwebs, or my SN if it is.

I never give out my real email; save for certain exemptions, I always use a Mailinator or Spam.la email address.

In those sort of instances I will put my first name.

Sports games = My name
Anything else = Fake name

Usually real sometimes I like to make a fake name up for rpg or sport games just for the lulz.

Fake name for all games.

I'm always Butt. I've been since I played my first game, Ocarina of Time, way back when I was five or so. 
 
 
It's because Butt is a funny word.

Usually real. Like Dragon Quest or whatever.
 
I would have done it in Mass Effect, but Sean Shepard is too much alliteration for me.

Depends on the game. Games like Oblivion I always create a name with numerous apostrophes, As, Ss, Ks, and Ls.

When asked for my real name in a non-important context, I usually put Max Keller.

I use fictitious praenomen.

It would be kinda weird to put in your real name, but hey, thats just me.

Poopface MacTavish is my default but if I am limited to four letter I go with Poop.

I have a really stupid last name, so I usually go by Francisco Hernandez.

I enter my name almost always.

I put my name, unless the character has a canonically accepted name, in which case I put that name.

I either put Turtle, Bird, or Bill Bosslehower. NOTHING ELSE.
 
Except if it's Pokemon or Zelda. Then I let my imagination run wild.

all but rpg or online games (Social and MMO whatever)

If it's a rpg game, I would use insulting names based on the characters. I have yet gone thru an jrpg where I don't name a effeminate character as twink, princess, cupcake. Makes the conversations that much more humorous. 
 
Except for Earthbound. Default names for that game. Earthbound deserves respect.

I think a really good follow-up would be whether or not you grew up with siblings.  Calling your guy Link in Legend of Zelda is cool, but not when someone else is gonna start playing and you have those save files on the screen with only the first name of your character telling you apart.

I usually use my real first name.

I generally enter a user name or whatever sounds good under the given circumstances.
