I'm sure many you remember what fun was had during last years EVO Stream when Dave decided to throw it up with the chat. It exposed a lot of the GB community to hype that is competitive fighting games and it was great answering questions and cheering along with the community. I hope it happens again this year.
There's an interesting addition to this year's EVO. Due to the wild saturation of legitimately competitive fighting games this year the organizers of EVO are holding a donation drive for people to vote on what the 8th game should be on the main stage.
Currently the 7 games to absolutely appear on the main stage are:
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Mortal Kombat 9
- Street Fighter X Tekken 2013
- King of Fighters XIII
- Persona 4 Arena
There are 17 other games in the running to take the 8th slot. You vote by donating at least 5 dollars (US) to charity supporting breast cancer research. Voting is currently going, and more information and the links for voting can be found here: SRK News Article
Now though I've said there are 17 games, there are really only 3 in the running. Those are:
- Skullgirls
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- MLP: Fighting Is Magic, (Though there is a special clause detailed here)
Now I'm completely bias here, but a vote for Skullgirls is a vote supporting indie developers. Here's a game that was designed for competitive players by competitive player, but got a bit lost under all the bigger releases, unfortunate console red tape, and issues with touch of death combos. Having it appear as an official game at EVO will hopefully showcase just how fun the game is to play and watch. It would be wonderful to see Lab Zero be able to bounce back and their game reach it's potential.
Which ever you vote for, I hope that you check out the drive in some way and watch EVO when it's happening later this year.
(Yes it totally sucks you can't vote for Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire, but thems the breaks.)
