"While achievement’s have been around since the 360’s initial launch it seems that along with the new Xbox experience will be medals. Yes, Medals are coming to the 360’s dashboard update. Strangely enough no one has really caught onto this but it was slipped in a recent interview.

The MyXbox section will give you a central location to edit personal items. From here you’ll be able to add pictures, edit your profile, and view your achievements. Microsoft will also institute a new medal system so you can show off your most recent achievements. Medals are basically graphical representations of achievements, kind of like graphical badges."

MS dropped a few new nuggets on the new Home/Mii like system.

-”eventually thousands of items will be available”, from guitars to clothes to skateboards, plus attendant animation routines.

-Avatars can wear clothes decorated with your old gamerpics.

-”Gamerpics aren’t going away, they’re now a badge of your identity!”

-Lacks the features of Miis when it comes to face editing, makes up for it with everything else.

-COMPOSED OF 102 VIRTUAL BONES.

They are still working on the system and there are also plans for third parties to add unlockable clothes, items ect. as achievements.

Alright, don't really care about medals. Avatars are cool though.

hm....I'm still into achievements.  I've invested too much time and energy into getting as many as possible in the games I own to give up now.

Uhh, medals? You really need a name for that? Should be mandatory, its even on the PSN gamercards...

Magical, exactly like they say it is! Magic of software is awesome... if only there was some magic in hardware though. :P

Why? Why Medals that sound like trophies? Why avatars that look like a mix of miis and home characters? Why cant ms just be content with what they got? Achievements are fine the way they are ms started the idea everyone knows what an achievement is. Avatars are dumb since they will probably be still in gamercards when viewed on a webrowser. Its a dumb knee jerk idea and they seem scared for nothing.

the medals they are talking about is the picture we get along with every single achievment since the launch of the 360.

they are probly just expanding on the idea

It's insignificant honestly, they even gave a name for it? Lol, its just images showing your most recent achievements unlocked, which is exactly (like other said) what trophies do.

I like the medals idea. There are some pretty cool looking ones.

And it shows you the latest four achievements when you load someone's gamercard...

When I first read the title, I thought that the Wii was going to include "medals" as their achievements.

Medal's sound like it's just going to be an upgrade of the pictures we get now, kinda cool I guess.

Who cares? They should do less than 500 points =Bronze, more then 500 to 999 =Silver, full 1000 = Gold. Done, sell it, PEACE!
