Just curious as to everyones thoughts on to what form we will hopefully/eventually/maybe see the long delayed title. Ps4 launch title? PsVita game? (Obscenely) late cycle ps3 release? I just dont know anymore...

It's dead. Dead forever. Just let it go.

Just like the flying creature in the game. Or at least, that's what I fully expected to happen.

I gave up on it ages ago. A shame too because the game looks SO good, but who knows maybe I might get surprised and it will finally get a release date?

PS4 Launch Title

I'd have to guess that's it's being pushed to the next PlayStation. The same with Versus XIII which might be renamed.

Looks like this Guardian...

...didin't last.

Although I never really followed TLG, I'd like to think that this is the fate of the game (along with Versus XIII). Who knows? It might be totally awesome.

It's dead.

#13 Posted by Catarrhal (817 posts) -

The Last Guardian is still alive; check this incredibly detailed timeline (which is still up to date).

Still, while the game ain't really dead, there's no harm in pretending that it is; you might be pleasantly surprised one day.

#14 Posted by Raven10 (1692 posts) -

A couple months back they sent some of the God of War programmers over to Japan to try and fix it. I guess their tech was having issues. I don't think it's dead yet just the idea was a bit to ambitious for the hardware. Maybe a PS4 launch title would make sense.

#15 Posted by pyrodactyl (1854 posts) -

@Inkerman: was that some kind of meta commentary on the awefullness of the one liner? Cause it kind of seems that way.

#16 Posted by Sticky_Pennies (2019 posts) -

I think that if there ever were an opportunity to see that game again it'll be on 2/20.

#17 Posted by lemonlateralus (102 posts) -

Fingers crossed

#18 Posted by Cold_Wolven (2205 posts) -

It will come eventually although for what Sony platform could still be decided, will it be a very late PS3 game or an early PS4 game to get more early adopters buying a PS4.

#19 Posted by Humanity (8709 posts) -

If it ever comes out that might be neat but I've stopped caring about it a long time ago, and I was never really that hyped in the first place.

#20 Posted by devilzrule27 (1239 posts) -

Wouldn't surprise me if it just becomes a PSN release at some point.

They are holding an event on February  20th for the sole reason of announcing this games release date and showing a new trailer.

#22 Posted by BeachThunder (11634 posts) -

You know, this made me realise that "Fate of the Last Guardian" is actually a better name than just "The Last Guardian".

#23 Posted by Lukos (76 posts) -

It's coming out as a PS4 launch game as well as The Agent from Rockstar. :)

#25 Posted by lemonlateralus (102 posts) -

Haha, very true. That being said im sure the fate will be that he dies at the end.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Playstation 4 game, like Shadow of the Colossus it was too ambitious for it's own hardware, every bit of gameplay showed great graphics but a terrible framerate. I'd say it will be a PS4 launch title

#28 Posted by Bell_End (1208 posts) -

i don't think it was ever anymore than that trailer with the little girl running around with that dog/rat/bird thing.

i could be wrong though. hope i am!

Something had to fill the void of Duke Nukem Forever.

#30 Posted by Legion_ (1252 posts) -

Yeah, that game is done. Sadly.

#31 Posted by BabyChooChoo (4245 posts) -

Oh shit. Guys, I think I just figured out what that event on Feb 20th is about...

But seriously though, I can't tell if that'd be anticlimactic, awesome, or both.

PlayStation = Released on the 3rd of December, 1994.

PlayStation 2 = Released on the 4th of March, 2000.

PlayStation 3 = Released on the 11th of November 2006.

PlayStation 4 = Probably to be released in 2013.

Ico

Began development in 1998.

Released on the 24th of September, 2001.

Shadow of the Colossus

Began development in 2002.

Released on the 18th of October, 2005.

The Last Guardian

Began development in 2007/2008.

In 2012, Sony affirmed the game was still under development, and later, at Gamescom, explained that while they at one point had the game in a playable state, some technical issues arose, and they have had difficulty in resolving those before releasing the title. Sony's Shuhei Yoshida has stated that committing to a 2013 release is unsure, as they are afraid of "disappointing many people" as they had done before with earlier release date estimates.

Team Ico Time.

It's probably dead but if it's not it's not coming out on PS3. PS4 launch/early title maybe.

It's clear that Sony isn't interested anymore in putting any effort marketing their first party stuff on the PS3 and hasn't done so in a while so releasing it on the PS3 would be a waste.

#34 Posted by AngelN7 (2970 posts) -

Whatever! I still want that game it will be the console's swansong with Persona 5 you just wait...

And it wouldn't be the first time they made a game for one console, only to port in to the next generation of hardware in the middle of development. They have the nickname of being the Olympic team for there 4 year development time, so missing it by a year or so isn't so bad for them.

The second of the 20th month? a.k.a never, good one!

Between this and Gran Turismo 5, I will be very cautious about any cool games Sony shows off for the PS4 that aren't developed by Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, or Naughty Dog.

This is exactly what I'm thinking. If sony wants people to lose their shit, they would show gameplay of this game on 2/20 along with (but probably not) FF Versus 13 (renamed as something else). Just reveal that all of the games that we thought were dead, are actually launch titles for PS4.

I know it has no basis in reality, but this just makes me think of the developers sitting down to look at the game and wondering why the boy isn't some rage-fueled, bloodthirsty lunatic hellbent on destroying the guardian creature.

#40 Posted by Hupfen (44 posts) -

Just... Just don't talk about it.

It makes me sad just thinking about it... :(

(I'm scared it won't come out, because I'm a nasty pessimist.)
