Digital Devil Saga 2. When the story starts getting near the end.

The finale songs of any of the Ouendan games.

Heavy Rain: The Lizard

Microwave tunnel in MGS4, ending of MGS3

Also, I have to add anytime a song from a past game in a series returns in a sequel.

The death of a certain someone in The Darkness is certainly one of the strongest, if not the strongest feeling a game has ever conjured up in me. And it is truly amazing how they managed to do that in such a short amount of time with the character in question.

This topic is absurd.  I thought video games were supposed to desensitize us all.

I guess my only real emotional connection to games tend to be my sense of relief after finishing a part of a game like Silent Hill or Amnesia.  That first breath in what seems like hours is pretty great.  I love progressing through stories which is why a lot of my favorite games are RPG's, but they don't make me emotional.

EDIT: Also, the sense of accomplishment I get from Rosetta Stone is pretty awesome... that counts right?

Bioshock- would you kindly/a man obeys, this is more or less the most spell bounding moment in any game iv ever played, it really worked on so many levels,  i wouldnt read past here if you dont want spoilers

its not effective just in the games universe but it also gave context to the most basic game mechanic that has been around since the dawn of gaming; why it is your doing the things the game tells you to do.  i may be wrong, but im not sure any other game has ever addressed this issue, its just accepted that a game gives you a set of parameters to carry out and you do them in the pursuit of entertainment, or glory or a story or whatever, but in one fowl swoop Bioshock gives this idea meaning and gives you a really emotional moment in andrew ryans death, i was completely floored by the whole thing, it made me consider everything i had done up to that point in the game,

i also wanna give props to Lost Odyssey for its emotional impact on me, i really got into that game, and i dont really like JRPGs that much

" @xobballox: Good call on the Playboy/Dwayne one. I had completely forgotten about that, although to me that one was more easy due to their personalities :) The CoD4 ending is also a good call. Damn, that helplessness when the team was just lying there - I held my breath during the entire scene. I still feel bad about Gaz :(
@Jeust: Great list. But who was "Gina" in The Darkness? "
I meant Jenny. ^^

After hearing Brad talk about it I really wish they would release it on the PC or maybe the PS3 so I could check it out.  Oh well.

Only Episode 2.

The GTA IV ending didn't touch me one bit.

 Games usually have this problem, which is why movies and books are still a superior storytelling medium.

I was spoiled the ending of Persona 3, and after that I completely lost the will to continue playing it. I was completely crippled from playing any RPG's for a week.

The endings of both Max Payne games. Both games are lovely roller coaster rides into depression and anger anyway.

I still remember the final boss battle of Final Fantasy 3 for the Gameboy. The bad guy says something like 'You cannot fight a god!' and one of the heroes in your party responds with "You are gods only in your own minds!" Followed by EVERYONE, from hermit sages to your brain-piloted airship, fighting on your side against the evil gods. It still psyches me up.

Letting the hero land the final blow on Dark Dragon in Shining Force followed by what happens in the ending cut scene.

The ending of Deadspace. OH GOD

And I loved the little encouraging speeches that your party members give when you face down Irenicus in Baldur's Gate 2.

Most of the cutscenes of Enslaved managed to envoke some emotions in me. The facial animations was so goddamn great!

In Deus Ex

when JC and his brother Paul were ambushed in the apartment and the first time I played through Paul died.  That's not a scripted event and it was directly related to how badly I played that portion of the game. Which made it that much more personal.

Actually, I'll agree that it was a bit touching. And kinda sad. It was a really atmospheric game all-round.

@imsh_pl

 said:

" Heavy Rain "

Yeah, I also fucked up a QTE at the end, but at that point I was almost hypnotized to believ ing that the whole thing was a movie that I got angry at the director for "making such a sad ending".

@CaLe
 said:

" MGS4 hallway button spam was intense though. "

QFT. And I don't even know shit about Metal Gear Solid - MGS4 was the first MGS game I completed, and yet that scene still touched me

  @VilhelmNielsen: It wasn't Kate that I was sad about. I was sad about Niko having lost his only shot at actually being happy. I cared about Niko, I didn't care about Kate.

@StingerMK2:  Same for me.  I'm surprised your post is the first time that anyone mentioned Bioshock.  That scene pretty much left me in awe.

I too don't understand the multitude of MW2 comments,  I feel absolutely no connection to those characters whatsoever, my reaction was basically, "well that sucks."
