Giving how the forums load like shit I'd say they have another problem with the website. What a surprise....
Really? You're upset that a complete re-write of the world's largest videogame wiki/videogame forum/news and reviews site/videogame video site isn't 100% stable after only a couple of weeks under full stress? You're hard to please.
Was wondering about that myself... Been hitting F5 every couple of minutes for a while now.
@the_nubster: How many problems did Polygon had when they re-launched? Almost none? That's what I heard too. I respect Dave and the crew but it's been 3 weeks.

I get that there are problems with this sort of thing..that's fine. They're doing their best...I was just hoping someone had some info or maybe one of the staff might chime in...

Keep in mind that Polygon is fucking tiny as shit, both in terms of content and features, compared to Giant Bomb. And as far as website launches go, the Polygon situation is the exception rather than the rule.

Polygon seems like a much smaller scope. It's not a wiki.

I'm not exactly sure why you're defending something that isn't functioning correctly; regardless, perhaps they should have left it in beta for a bit longer - unless, of course, there was some specific deadline set by CBS.
@beachthunder: It's possibly what happened. They've said a couple times that they didn't owned the previous design anymore and had to change it.

Almost none, but it sounds like they were still present. And that's with a small site. Giantbomb has a wiki that is the size of Polygon several times over plus all affiliated stats and points to track with each individual user, the hundreds of thousands of gigabytes of data to be brought over (both in the form of videos and in text) to an all-new editor and all of the comments on those articles and videos, each and every user's name and wiki points, comments, blogs, forum posts, etc. When Polygon becomes a wiki resource, lasts for 5 years, and then does a complete re-haul of every single aspect of their code under crunch, then you can compare the launch of Polygon to this.
You obviously don't respect the engineering team enough if you're shitting on this massive undertaking in a condescending, sarcastic tone. You're being disrespectful and immature, and you're not even contributing to the issue in a constructive way. You're just tearing down the work that the engineering team has done and totally ignoring the successes of the launch.
GameTeailers is huge and their re-launch was fine - although that's a huge site with tons of staff.
Regardless I agree with the sentiment that they should have left it in Beta longer. I love the site and the guys but so many things are breaking, so many time outs recently, and the mobile site is really a mess - it doesn't feel like they're just ironing out some kinks, a lot of stuff is just legit busted. Unless they had some hard deadlines they should've worked on the beta for a while longer.

I understand it's hard work and they worked overtime, but this doesn't change the fact that the site is unstable and that is frustrating. Maybe they should have kept it longer in beta instead of releasing it so early. What do you want me to do, to be symphatetic with the team and ignore the problems?

You're missing the bigger picture here, don't you see, it's all a conspiracy! Obviously CBS has put the pressure on the engineering team, forcing them to launch the site to early in an attempt to undermine the whole website and thereby leaving Gerstmann without a job. This was their plan all along, this whole takeover of GB was all an elaborate scheme to get back at Gerstmann and crew DON'T YOU SEE, IT'S SO OBVIOUS NOT JUST A FEW STARTUP ERRORS ON A GIGANTIC, EXTREMELY AMBITIOUS MAKEOVER, IT'S ALL CONNECTED TO THE ANIMUS!!!!!
@the_nubster: Also, if I click on the Jar video, I get this message:
" This page doesn’t exist. We’re willing to bet that it’s because you pasted in some dodgy URL that a “friend” of yours sent you. We think that means you should really take stock of your life and the people in it. After all, friends don’t send friends broken links. Either that or something really weird and/or bad happened on our end. I mean, I guess that’s possible. "
I would appreciate if they would remove the snark at least until the website actually works properly.
@alekss: They released it early because, when CBSi acquired them, they didn't acquire the rights to the old layout. The engineering team was under legal pressure to design, code, and finalize the website and get it out of the door as quick as they could. There was a lot of subscriber stuff (which should have been available to all, or parts of it at least) where they talked about company meetings and showing the website to a board of higher-ups to show that they were actually making progress. They've even said they would have liked to work on it longer, but they needed to get it finished.
And that's just a joke error. It's better than "404 Page Not Found." It's a personal touch, not snark.
@civid: follow the money

Please do not panic. The numbing sensation rapidly spreading throughout your limbs is a biological agent dispensed for your own good. Do not resist. A reclamation team will arrive to collect you shortly. Try not to choke on your own tongue until that time.

It is tiny as in the database but it is also huge in terms of the amount of engineers that work for The Verge. Likely it wasn't a complete re-write of that tech anyways.
You have to come out of beta at some point to find out how the site performs under full traffic load. I doubt they anticipated it breaking this badly but you can't roll it back once you hit the big red button.
@alekss: If you want to complain then do it in the bug forum where at least someone might see it and act on it.
@civid: I suspect there was a deadline. In March it will have been one year since the deal to buy GB and it is entirely possible that they only licenced the old platform for a set length of time in the contract. Even if they did though the engineers will have known well in advance. I don't think any longer in the beta would have helped.
