Female Character of the Generation: Semifinals Group 2

Man, this is a tough one. I went with Clem but all three are great characters.

Clementine isn't much of a character in Season 1. Bayonetta.

Ellie, by far.

Ellie of course. One of the best female videogame characters ever written. It is just depressing that no matter who wins in this round will be beaten by Mass Effect Anyway...

Bayonetta doesn't even register on the criteria with which I judge a fictional character. She hardly even tries, which I weirdly respect, but I'm still not voting for her.

Clem is very well-executed for the role the writers wanted her to play--the heavy yoke of pre-zombie morality weighing down on the player, via little girl cuteness. Ellie, though, expanded on that role without feeling quite as nakedly manipulative.

Ellie wins.

I'd be pretty OK with Ellie just winning this whole thing.

Elli, as much as I like her, feels like a characters basically modeled on/derivative of Juno. Clem was little more than an adorable device for sympathy and to keep the plot moving and was overshadowed by other female characters in that very game. And Bayonetta, as much as I love her dearly, has no right to win something like this.

I found the other category's nominees really unimpressive too. What a bummer. I voted Bayonetta because I know she won't win and I <3 her.

I'm just wondering how characters like Alyx Vance or Faith can not be here? Does anybody agree or is it simply me? Is there something wrong with me?

I hate The Last of Us for no reason, and I haven't played Bayonetta. So I'll go with Clementine, she was nice in the 2 episodes I played of TWD before getting bored out of my mind and returning to games that consist of being played.

I would love to hear from somebody that actually played The Last of Us and The Walking Dead, and genuinely believes Clementine is a better character than Ellie.

There are about 20 minutes in Episode 3 and 30 minutes in Episode 5 where Clementine is an interesting character. The rest of the time she's just a cutesy little girl for Lee to take care of. Ellie is an actual character who develops and doesn't rely on "I'm just a naive little girl" for sympathy.

Yeah, I guess if your criteria is literally just "adorableness" and nothing else then Clementine would be a better character, but by just about every other metric Ellie is the superior choice.

@guesty_01: I voted for Faith every chance I had. I wouldn't consider Alyx Vance to be from this generation though because Half Life 2 outdates it.

Bayonetta. How is this even a question.

Well I voted for Bayonetta in blind fanaticism. I really should play Last of Us one of these days though.... Either way, I wouldn't vote for Clem, so it's not all wrong.

@mosespippy: Another Faith supporter! I believe Alyx Vance was in the original voting bracket? Half-Life 2 might pre date the generation but surely by the criteria set Half-Life 2 Episode 2 fits the bill?

A couple hours into The Last of Us, I was fighting dudes (as Joel tends to do). I thought I cleared out the room with barely any health left, but a guy pushed me against a shelf and I was pretty much done. Out of nowhere, for the first time, Ellie stabbed the dude in the back and yelled "get off him!" I picked up a 2x4 and we survived. And that's how our journey as a team really began.

@guesty_01: Half Life Two Episode Two does fit the bill but the character predates the generation so I don't think she should have been on the ballot.

Come on, Ellie is good, but Clem is nothing special!!!

Bayonetta should take this. She is a strong, hilarious and badass character that takes fan-service and applies it to herself SO hard that she completely transcends sexism.

@mosespippy: You make a valid point, and perhaps you are right. She wasn't created in this generation, she merely appeared in it. Almost like choosing Mario, or Sonic, let's say.

Ah I'm really stuck between Ellie and Bayonetta but I'm gonna go with Ellie on this one. All three are great though.

I voted Clementine, but that's a solid list there.

Better list than the other, went with Clem. Pretty unusual character for games and well acted.
