Hello GB Members!

My name is Darryl "Absolute" Allen, and I am heading a marketing campaign for the indie game Fortress Forever. Fortress Forever is a remake of Team Fortress Classic on the HL2 engine.

Before the campaign starts, I am reaching out to raise awareness, as we're an indie game developed by volunteers (with no marketing budget). I would like to ask for your support for Fortress Forever by visiting our Facebook page and clicking that magic LIKE button.

On our page you will see some great in-game footage, as well as developer updates.

It's a free download - so check us out [Link deleted by mod]

Thanks for your support.

I remember waiting for this mod to come out well before TF2 was released while I was playing around with the HL2CTF mod. I might try it out, but I'm pretty sure my taste in online shooters has changed since 1998.

No doubt we've all had a change of flavours. Seems like there's not many fast-paced games these days, it's all tactical FPS where you have to creep around, and die after 3 shots.

FF is now ready for market. Although I'm organizing a large beta test for the next update, there is a community playing the current version. I do invite you to play a little before we go big :)

We could really use everyone's support on facebook!

Looks interesting, good luck!

Wait, I'm confused; I've played FF before. What do you mean by "ready for market?" Is the game in its current form going to be supplanted by a product that costs money, akin to Garry's Mod?

It's ready for marketing - as in it has reached a point of perfection where marketing efforts are worth the efforts, and new players are sure to enjoy.

It will remain free.

Ah, that's cool. Good to hear.

Hi All,

I'm looking to get in touch with the GB admins. I would like to invite the GB admins and a few members of the GB forum to join us in a closed beta test. This test will be for the latest FF version, and include members from various community sites and companies. We should have a good turn out, and it will be a great time!

Cheers.

Edit: The links to our facebok & home page have been removed. Please contact me via pm for these details.

You guys started your own company now and managed to license the Source engine? That is pretty impressive! How did you manage to do that?

Where did we say that? :)

We're a mod for HL2.

Well, having the title as "Vice President of Marketing" usually implies a large corporation. But you're just a bunch of people doing this on your spare time, right?

So you guys are doing what Valve did five years ago with TF2?

Yes, that is correct. I'm doing all the marketing. Title is bit miss-leading I suppose, but I am heading it for the project.

Yes and no. It would be more accurate to say we're doing what Robin Walker & crew did 16 years ago for Quake, with the original TF. Independent group creating a great TF mod.

Ours is more so based on the original game play of Team Fortress for Quake.. which was ported to the HL engine by Valve (after they hired the original TF devs) as Team Fortress Classic. TF2 is a completely different game from the original TFs and Fortress Forever.

Is this thread not spam just because you put the word 'indie' in your OP?

Interesting. I remember trying out FF in its early stages ages ago. Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime soon.

This is weird. His links were deleted, presumably because it was considered spam, but the thread was not closed, presumably because it wasn't considered spam. Not having people come in here spamming left and right for self-promotion is sensible, but there is a fine line (and I don't know where it should be declared) between "hey, that's spammy" and really off-putting "don't put any links here, because we don't want competition!"

Considering what a large and varied community exists here, it seems there should also be some ways to facilitate people sharing their creations (websites, games, videos, etc) in a manner in which they are not clutter nor spam. I always feel weird when I see someone come in and say "hey look at this [video, song, picture, website, game, etc] I made!" and it's nuked with the same prejudice as viagra spam.

Glad that isn't my job, because I'm not sure what the answer is. :D
