This is similar to the "JESUS CHRIST' game moment topic that was posted, but what do you guys think? I don't think this topic had been done before, but sorry if it has.

The end of Alone in the Dark, I was prepared to put up with that games bullshit just because of how cool some of the technical aspects were and how much I loved some of the gameplay ideas in it. The ending is without a doubt, imo, the worst sequence (ending or otherwise) in any videogame ever. That thing took my soul.

Second up is the opening gameplay segment of Infinite Undiscovery, I could absolutely care less if the game gets better after that like a lot of people have said, that opening segment made me want to tear my hear out and devour it while standing over the person responsible, dripping blood all over him as he screams in horror. No voice acting for the most part, and terrible voice acting when there is, inadequate explanation of how to play the fucking game (seriously, why have a tutorial section if it tells you nothing? Otherwise I would just look in the fucking manual) confusing combat mechanics, a ridiculously hard boss fight within the first few minutes followed by a pitch black fucking stealth section in one of the worst modeled/designed forest segments i've ever seen in a videogame, and we all know how bad stealth segments in RPGs are. Holy shit, damn, it makes me burn with rage.

The Lirum death mini-game in Lost Odyssey. I've ranted about it in my blog, so I won't do it again.

The Force Unleashed, when I slipped off a slope with no control.
Halo 2, having the game end after a huge setup.
Nuts and Bolts, when no one played online =(

Granted, I still enjoyed these games. Things like those bring my hopes down, fast.

I was all fine and dandy enjoying my playthrough of CoD4 until I got to that mission where you need to sit there at the ferris wheel. It wasn't really hard per se, but I didn't feel like bothering with it and eventually I just never went back. Never finished CoD4 because of that.

Excuse me, they were more like mutants. =P And how was it survival horror? You don't even have to aim at them. They pretty much always just ran straight at you too. Just get close and shoot from the hip and it's pretty much a guaranteed kill even on the hardest difficulty.

Personally, I thought it was a nice change of pace for the game.

I love the original Valkyrie Profile.  It's one of my all-time favorite games, and I especially love the way it resolves Lenneth's story.

Then Valkyrie Profile 2 came along and pulled some of the worst time travel bullshit I have ever seen in any piece of fiction ever, in essence negating the entire first game from ever happening.  There came a point in the game where I just couldn't play it anymore, and this was after putting sixty-odd hours into the game.  The stupidity of VP2's plot has even dissuaded me from even trying Covenant of the Plume on the DS.

Similarly, Star Ocean:  Till the End of Time was fun for the first sixty or so hours I played it.  Then they throw in a plot twist that absolutely kills the game's momentum.

In short, tri-Ace is pretty much all kinds of terrible when it comes to writing plots for their games these days.

Really? That was probably my favorite part just because it was so hard. Actually, I hated the part where you have to snipe the one dude even more. It took me so many tries to get it. =P

Was it better or worse pulled off than the last Indiana Jones movie?

A few hours into Bioshock, replaying some part of the game several times trying out different ways to approach the level and the big daddy, when I suddenly realized: "This is no fun whatsoever. Not in the slightest."
I stopped playing and never touched it again. Have not regretted that.
Same story, basically, with Assassin's Creed. "This is pretty and ambitious, but it isn't entertaining. Goodbye."

A game has very little time to get one hooked; I feel like this time is wasted more and more in today's games.

And then there are the times were something happens in a game and you don't touch it for several months. There are a lot of these things. I stopped playing Final Fantasy IX over some lost boss battle and never touched it again for over a year. Then one day randomply picked it up and beat it in a few days.
I remember playing the Silent Hill demo on the PSX and it freaked me out so much that I never finished it and never planned to ever go there again. But the game's mood stuck with me and one day, again totally random, I bought a copy off eBay and it became one of my all-time favourite franchises.

Speaking of Silent Hill, I stopped playing Silent Hill 2 for almost a year when Maria was repeatedly killed by monsters shortly after I got to her. Silent Hill is VERY hard to get yourself to playing again if you're not into the story and flow yet.

Then, TWEWY. A great game, but at some point the "I want to stab that character in the face for being so goddamn annoying/retarded" got the best of me and I stopped playing. I will never finish it, even though I was very far into the game.

The REmake is lying around here, unfinished. I have now progressed far enough to encounter hunters. They made me stop playing. I will probably never finish it because of these things. Even though I adore the games artstyle/feel/diretion.

I will never finish Ocarina of Time. I have not played it when it was new, and I bought it on the virtual console. I have progressed through the fire temple as adult link, but nothing story or gameplay wise impressed me enough to keep on going. Not going to touch it again.

Final Fantasy XII. 70 hours into the game when I had the famous XII-realization of: What the fuck am I doing here? I don't care about any of these characters, and I can live without knowing how the plot progresses. Fuck you. I'm sure you know the feeling if you've played the game.

The end of end of the MGS4 almost ruins the game for me, but the rest of it is so good that I still love it.  If it ended correctly it'd be right up there with my favorite games ever though.

Oooh, I forgot my favourite Gaming Moment That Killed An Entire Game for me!

STARCRAFT. StarCraft pulled an escort mission on me. There are three things an RTS cannot do: Escort missions, Hero systems, and RPG elements. StarCraft thought the first two were good ideas. I turned the game of, uninstalled it, never went back to it. Don't care anymore. Escort mission? Bugger off, blizzard.

Dawn of War II would beg to differ.  That game's campaign is completely based around hero systems and RPG elements and it's fantastic.  Escort missions I will usually agree on though.

I actually kind of wrote that part of the game out of my memory until you just mentioned it.  That fucking STUPID to put in that game.  Hopefully they realize that and don't do any of that crap for the sequel.

Is this the part where I come in here and troll with the "the beginning of MGS4 killed it for me, because I realized it was just going to be all movie and no game" comments?

Anyways, in all seriousness, the level scaling issues in Oblivion ended up turning me off of that game...and Elder Scrolls in general.  Hopefully, it'll get fixed in ES5.

Viva Pinata - When I found out that it was impossible to have every type on Pinata in one giant garden. Instead, you have to categorize them into multiple different gardens and then can only work on and view one of these gardens at a time. Lame.

Donkey Kong 64 - When I realized how much freaking item collecting there was in these enormous worlds with poor draw distance and when you had to play each level 5 times as each Kong to collect everything.

Grand Theft Auto 4 - Discovering that you can lock-on tto people while eating a hot dog, but cannot use the hot dog as a weapon. Okay, okay. That one didn't kill the game at all for me and I still think it's the best game I've played this gen, but this is a missed opportunity.

Freekstyle - What killed this game for me was finding out how ridiculously lame the rubber-band AI was. Seriously, I've never felt so robbed in a game before. You can literally have a perfect run, be in freak-out mode during the final stretch at top speed, only to have someone pass you at the last second. Impossible and completely stupid.

Zelda: Twilight Princess - Far too many stupid design decisions that led to a whole lot of completely unnecessary frustration.

Mario Kart 64 - Going back to this game nearly a decade later and finally being able to see that it's actually pretty crappy, even in comparision to lots of other games of the time. This also made me appreciate Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in a whole new way.

Mortal Kombat: Deception - The final boss Onaga. I'm a big MK fan, but Onaga was such a lame and ridiculously cheap boss that I ended up only beating the game with 4 or 5 characters total.

Portal - A lot of you will hate me for this, but GLaDOS killed the game for me. I found her to be incredibly annoying, hard to understand, and generally not very funny. Just thinking about that God awful ending song still makes me cringe. It insulted my dignity.

The Sims - A few things killed it for me. First of all, I'll admit I didn't play it on PC, but PS2 or Gamecube or something. I was starting to have fun making a really sweet house, only to be disappointed with the major lack of memory that could be used. What really killed it for me though is the ridiculous Sim management. It's hard to get anything done when your Sim needs to sleep, bath, and use the toilet so regularly. It ended up feeling less like a game and more like babysitting a video game character. Totally not fun at all.

I'm sure there's plenty more. Probably also quite a few that had bad moments in the story that killed everything for me. I can't really think of those ones off the top of my head right now, but I'm sure they're out there. I bet as more people reply, I'll see some of them get mentioned. Anyway, that's all for now. Also, I realize maybe it's kind of janky to go back and pick on Mario Kart 64 almost 10 years later, but whatever. I bought it on Virtual Console only to be very disappointed with it.

O.O  This is gonna get ugly...

Also, Portal = fucking incredible.

Also also...I feel ya on Freekstyle, sir.  Nonetheless, I trotted along and dealt with it.  Le sigh...

Second that! If they just went to the credits for real the first time after you herd the gunshot...best game ever. it had the closer the series needed, and goddamn it was depressing and satisfying. Then...one hour of random story coming out of nowhere. Also, Raiden should have been dead.

Oblivion, I accidently killed a Mage on a main quest and got kicked out of the Mages guild and the only way i could get back in was to collect 100 ass hairs or something ridiculous like that.

Burnout: Dominator - When I saw one of the opposing cars go through a pedestrian vehicle at 200 MPH, and phase through. I basically said "fuck this", put the controller down, and never played the game again.

This one is sort of shameful, but I could never beat the final boss in FFIV Advance. I grinded for hours and hours and went up ten levels and he still beat the crap out of me with repeated Big Bangs. I eventually deleted my file and started again, but got bored around the midway point of the game.

Devil May Cry 4 with his backtracking. Seriously I hate games with backtracking and Devil May Cry 4 has tons of it and I still have not reached Dante's part. I think I will still finish it though.

The night part in Plants vs Zombies totally killed it for me, I really dont think I am going to play it again.

Gears of War 2: those 'radio cutscene' were you can only walk slowly and have to go through all of that dialogue crap.
GTA IV: Having to drive all the way to the mission objective everytime you die. That sucked ass.

What is this that I am hearing about Uncharted??!?!?! ALIENS?!?!? WHAAT??!?!

I will say a few things that pissed me off:

  • Oblivion - I don't know, a lot of things didn't really appeal to me in that game. The leveling system was a bit wonky and I never really got far because I never felt that immersed in the world. The gameplay made it feel too "gamey" for me. I will give it another shot this summer, but I never LOVED the game.
  • A lot of Call of Duty World At War pissed me off and I think we all know the exact reasons by now.
  • Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - When I played for about 2 hours and it was done. = /
  • Max Payne - I got stuck at one point and never got past it. It wasn't even a firefight, I just didn't know where to go. Probably my fault.
  • The Darkness - I did not really like the "World War I" part that much. I just loved the city so much that it was disappointing to go to a bleak, repetitive landscape.
  • Stranglehold - I loved the feel and action, but the repetitive nature really killed it for me.
