Game of the Year 2008

2008 has been a great year of gaming. I, for one, have spent more than I ever have in gaming. Not too much, but more than ever, which is a lot. Even through the tough economy, many could say this has happened too for them. Grand Theft Auto IV, Gears of War 2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Rock Band 2, and more. The list is endless. Though for an award like this, one has to win. On this post, we will all debate, on one board, who the winner should be. Should it be...

I said Brawl. It's the only game on there that I've put more than 10 hours into. In fact, I've put 150 or so into it.

None of those.  Left 4 Dead somehow got excluded.

Personally if I had to choose I'd probably go for The World Ends With You as my favorite game of the year, but I wanna wait until Prince of Persia to make my choice.

MGS4, hands down.

I hate these threads. I for one, along with MANY people haven't played the new PoP yet, because it isn't even out, so how can we vote for THAT!?!?  And to nit pick, where is CoD: WaW, LittleBigPlanet, Banjo Kazooie: NaB etc.

You'd need to wait until the end of the year for all the games to come out, and make a broader selection.

Im going with gears 2.

Right now, it's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.  Once I play Prince of Persia, I will let you know if I change my mind or not.

Also...why did you leave Jumper: Griffin's Story off the list? That is one of the greatest games of the year, if not all-time!

You put Prince of Persia on over LittleBigPlanet?  I mean it looks good but it isn't even out yet and LittleBigPlanet is easily one of the best games this year.

Just delete everything from the list except Left 4 Dead.

I love MGS4, I thought they was no way any game would top it this year, but after finishing Gears 2 this weekend, I've been reminded why I loved the first Gears so much. Gears 2 is absolutely brilliant, story campaign alone. The multiplayer is a disappointment for me, except the great addition of Horde. No online guests and matchmaking ruins the experieince. Anyhow, the story campaign is epic, and full of 'Holy shit' moments. Nothing beats playing Gears 2 co-op. Awesome game, and therefore gets my vote.

Where is Burnout Paradise? I would call that one of the best games of the year as well...what about Yakuza 2? ...wow am I bored.

No joke though, I can't see anything surpassing Mirror's Edge for me. Gears, banjo, Fallout- all well and good, but it's totally stolen my heart.

Well, the year isn't over yet. But out of the games listed here, these are my top 3.

....uh no. Burnout Paradise was released in January of 08.

I love how everyone disagrees on these forums.
Normally it'd be some 10 year old saying how his favorite game is Gears 2 with many grammatical errors while others band with him or make fun of his illiteracy.

Here it's just who can win, or who can make themselves laugh the most.

So far, it appears Left 4 Dead has the most "I'm gonna buy this game and play it with my friends forever. And I'm gonna like it forever." fanbase. Nintendo dudes are going for their only good game that released this year (minus No More Heroes), normal 360 players are going for Gears 2, RPG fans are going for Fable 2, older RPG fans are going for Fallout 3 (which means most dudes here) and PS3 owners are either complaining about how LBP isn't on the list, voting for MGS4 or holding out for Prince of Persia.

And I am the only one who seems to give a crap about Professor Layton and the Curious Village and The World Ends With You, although will ineveitably pick Left 4 Dead.
