game with the longest loading times?
i was thinking about loading times and games and im curious as to what game has the longest. so in this topic we'll all list what we feel is the longest loading time in a game.
some rules:
1. no pc titles, thats depending on hardware, so consoles only.
2. installation time doesnt count, so this doesnt turn into a ps3 hate thread.
with that in place im gonna say resident evil outbreak. i only played offline but it seemed to take almost 15 seconds just to open a door. made backtracking absolute torture.
Smackdown 2, Legacy of Kain are a couple I can think of off the top of my head, but all PS1 titles were horrible. OOh... Soldier of Fortune for the Dreamcast had load times that lasted minutes at times.
Jade Empire, it usually took a minute on every loading screen even in tiny areas. It was just so tedious...
Smackdown vs Raw 2006 on the psp. I believe its a minute 30 wait for 1 match with created wrestlers.
Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex for the ps2. I recall playing bop-it while it loaded.
I know you said no PC titles, but STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky both have TERRIBLE loading times no matter what hardware you got. Even with the latest of PC hardware that loading screen would take you a good ten minutes to load. So I think this qualifies. :P

Ten minutes? I don't think I've ever waited more than maybe a minute or two in either of those games.
Oh man, Oblivion on the 360 was horrible with the load times!
In the STALKER games if you disable prefetching it makes all the loading quicker and gives you less stuttery gameplay.
I've heard about Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for the XBOX 360; I haven't played it, but I've seen this video, and it's difficult to imagine worse load times than that. The video in question consists of approximately twenty seconds of game play interspersed between a cumulative four minutes of loading time. That's an incredible ratio!

Metal Gear Solid 4, in between areas. Sometimes an area would take a minute (like on Drebin's truck, for example) to clear and the loading would take another minute. And then you have to press start to continue. Cool.

Are you seriously saying you load up Shadows of Chernobyl and Clear Sky in 20 seconds?? If that is in fact what you are actually saying, you are either crazy or you are lying your brains out. When I say it takes about ten minutes to load up those games I might be exaggerating quite a bit. But it does seriously take three to five minutes to load up even with the latest hardware. Of course, with the better hardware it goes faster, obviously.
loading up the game itself takes longer than 20 seconds of course(it doesn't take more than a minute though) but loading in-game is fine.
I might aswell add that i've only played SoC.
EDIT: I just loaded up the game and it didn't take more than 30 seconds.
" Stuntman for the PS2 was ridiculous. "In it's defense, the long load times whenever you wanted to do a retry would provide you with a good two minutes to wreck havoc and let out your frustration before trying again.
Don't even know why I pointed out the "crazy-stuff". I mean, we are all part of this community arent we? There is no crazier place than GB is all I'm sayin'. Anyways, yeah, when loading up a game was what I was refering to. While the loads in-game arent that bad, like you said. But I personally still think it is a bit too long.
On my piece of JUNK computer (actually an iMac with a Windows XP partition) STALKER games take about 1-2 minutes to load after choosing my save file. Subsequent loads are usually 20 seconds to a minute long.
Static Lighting probably has something to do with it.
Lost Odyssey had ridiculously long load times (15-30 seconds) at the start of every single random encounter.
Depends on how far back you want to go. Some Commodore 64 games, like Blue Max or Way of the Exploding Fist took almost 45 minutes to load from tape. The Neo Geo CD games could take well over 10 minutes in many cases.
Smackdown vs Raw 2006 for PSP has terrible loading times, though its a fun game and I still love creating wrestlers and move sets I cant bear to play that game since I once sat for half an hour to try out my new wrestler versus my old wrestler. You cant create the intro sequence either because the loading for the intro sequences can rival the time it takes to load the entire match. And in the "Create A..." modes you can wait a minute (or more) for a piece of clothing or a move to appear.
Extreme Pinball for the PS1
The only thing I can remember about it is how it took forever just to get a table loaded up. Little did I know the company responsible would go on to do games like Gears of War.
Turok:The new one.
That game made a terrible first impression.About 2-3 loading times at the beggining. All 2-3 minutes.
as soon as i saw this thread i was reminded of the horrible load times in Turok:Evolution for the GameCube. I'm pretty sure that some were over a minute long.
While I'm sure it doesn't have the longest loading times ever, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly on PlayStation 2 had serious loading time issues. Typically, you'd have to wait a minute or more for the next world to load. What's more, the loading screen has a loading screen! Admittedly, this is probably the least of that game's problems, but you can't deny that those are some pretty ridiculous load times for what was technically just a shinier version of the PS1 games.
It's weird when I start up Oblivion. When I hit Start at the menu, it locks up for almost a minute so it can load all of my saves (almost 500 saves I think) and the DLC.
Pretty much any of the WWE Smackdown games, especially when loading 6-man matches with created wrestlers.
Some of the games took 3-5 minutes to load them up. Then still had to load inbetween each of the entrances, and then again before the match..
And that's what happens when you make a game on the PS3/360 still using an engine created for the PSOne.
The first bad Spyro game, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (PS2), those loading times made the game almost impossible to finish.
I don't know how many people have played the Games On Demand version of Ninja Gaiden Black, but oh my god. It scrolls through a very lengthy intro text two full times and then a bit more before it loads the game. Ridiculous.
