I was in a GAME on saturday, it was packed in there. However, no one seemed to be buying anything. I'm pretty sure there are 2 GAMEs and a GameStation in the town I was in. Wasteful.

My town has a GAME and a GAMESTATION opposite each other. I was blown away when I found out they are owned by the same company.

GAME is our (UK) equivalent of Gamestop. They recently announced they won't be stocking Mass Effect 3, because they don't have enough money to buy the stock. Now everyone's freaking out and it looks like their going under fast.

One of the GAMEs closed though.

Yeah, it's basically the Gamestop of the UK.

I live about 30 minutes away from about 10 games and 5 gamestations. There could just as easily be 3 total and nothing would change. Very strange business practice. Wonder if they know what operational gearing is.

In my local shopping centre there are two GAME stores right near each other, and a Gamestation store on the second floor. They even use to have a smaller store in Debenhams. No wonder they are struggling, what a waste of money.

@Niall_Sg1: @Redbullet685: Oh, alright, thanks.

So are their a lot of alternative retailers for games in the UK? How big of a deal is it if this one outlet shuts down?

I don't know if you guys remember, but GAME bought out EB in the UK, then GameStation. Surely if they sold/closed down some of their stores they'd be able to at least buy some time to get out of trouble. It's madness that so many towns have 2-3 GAME stores. Not needed, it's crazy! The big supermarkets are undercutting them in terms of prices, and online stores like Amazon sell games so much cheaper that anytime I buy something from GAME it's purely because I'm there and want it now. If they can't afford to drop their prices to match everyone else, they need to be giving out more reward points, so I feel like I'm not shooting myself in both feet every time I go to there.

@Niall_Sg1: Only if you have enough points to buy a full game by using the card and no money, just to be mean :P

@Sin4profit: Along with their purchase of Gamestation they're the largest specialist retailer of games in the UK. HMV is an all-media store and really is the only remaining store of it's kind on the high street, I think. If Game/Station went under people would still be able to get their games, and they'd be able to without dealing with condescending staff, so that's a huge bonus.

@Benny: It's the same all over. Here in Glasgow there are 2 Gamestations and 3 Games within 20 mins of each other, it's crazy.

@BrickRoad: If I want a game right there and then I go to HMV. The staff there are much nicer, and during quiet times I've actually managed to have decent conversations with them about gaming. Good guys there.

Oh, also, when Infinite Space came out, I had neglected to preorder it, and HMV only got copies in for the people who preordered it. This included their staff. The guy on the till sold me the copy he had reserved. Awesome dude, didn't have to do that at all and I didn't ask.

It should be said that, despite what you'll hear from everyone on Game/station, there are good stores, with good staff. Admittedly usually in Gamestation, that has kept that a bit of it's identity and tends to employ slightly different people to Game.

Gamestation's are poorly laid out and usually smell of body odour.

I still go in Gamestation sometimes when I'm trading in. Has anyone tried Granger Games? They're quite a good company.

@Sin4profit: People will still be able to go to ASDA (WallMart) or Tesco for their games, or HMV, if they're not into buying stuff online.

@dekkadekkadekka: I'd rather go to GAME than HMV, because I've always found HMV to be expensive and have poor stock selection, but that's just been my experience.

@Wampa1: I know, they bought EB and Gamestation and left the same number of shops. Fuuuuck me it's idiotic to say the least. How many stores does a major retail chain need in any one city? For them it's at least 3 it seems...

@ABritishNerd: I work in Gamestation, so thats good to hear.

Grainger are allegedly pretty good, but don't have a store south of Nottingham.

It must be different in the UK, because in the US I've lived in multiple cities where I was within 30 minutes of at least 5 GameStops off the top of my head.

I just google maps'd my current location and there are no less than 10 within 30 minutes of me.

I'm not sure if it's all going to shit here in Ireland. Game's still taking preorders for Mass Effect as far as I can tell, and they were also stocking the Ubisoft Vita games.

I wonder if this will affect GAME stores in Sweden too, though I think I've seen ME3 promotional stuff at my local store. Kinda odd that we've had pretty much the same chains of stores here, but they've gone through different acquisitions. Our EB Games stores turned into GameStop.

Can't say I fucking care. My experiences with GAME Spain have been piss-poor, both in terms of staff and quality of the store. The sooner the chain goes out of business, the better.
