Eh, I don't know about the best game with "realistic graphics".

But my own personal preference? Wind Waker.

" Crysis beats pretty much anything else out there. Not by much, but it still just edges it. "
However should we factor in that it takes a nice machine to run crysis?(I got to play it on my laptop and I admit it looks wonderful) However we should think about the games that are open to all gamers. Not ones with just PCS or what not.  "
In that case it is probably:  PC:Crysis PS3:Uncharted 2 360:Forza 3Wii:Mario Galaxy PS2:God of War 2 "
And now my next question. Are we saying " Most realistic?" Or "Best looking?" I liked how Borderlands looked. And I think FF13 looks betifule. Crysis however by  far has the most realistic. And with everything jammed up for the 30 mins before my laptop committed suicide it was amazing.  "
I was going with "Most technically proficient" as the definition. I totally agree that art style is far more important than technically impressive graphics - personally my favourite graphics would probably be Prince of Persia (the 08 reboot) which had beautiful graphics. But these discussions generally focus on the technical aspects of graphics, rather than the art style aspects, so I naturally fell into talking about them in that sense.

@Geno:
Batman was to 'unreal engine' for me to count it as next gen.

For me next gen is Uncharted 2, Mgs 4, Heavy rain, FFXIII (GoW III Is looking great.)
All 4 of those games made my girlfriend sit down on the couch and just watch it, I think that is a great test for Next gen'ness of games if non-gamers go wow it usually is a good sign.

"to 'unreal engine' to be next gen"? First off, it's current gen. Second, Unreal Engine 3 is a current-gen engine. It's designed specifically for DirectX 9 & 10, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Arkham Asylum's art design was very well done and the Unreal Engine is a versatile engine that allowed it. Likewise, Mirror's Edge was another Unreal Engine game with absolutely fantastic art.

Haven't seen Metro 2033 yet, so Crysis beats everything easily. But comparing PC graphics to console graphics isn't fair, so probably something on PS3 like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2.

no other game has nearly as complex stuff going on as mgs4, so considering all the ai, all of the different mechanics, al of the different weapons, audio, etc etc etc the whole game looks phenomenal.  "

Nice tree and ground textures, yo. Nice to know that Kojima Productions can release a game in 2008 with textures worthy of the year 2006.

" In alphabetical order, and in terms of overall presentation rather than just artistic or technical:

Anno series
Assassin's Creed 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Crysis series
Dawn of War 2
Dirt 2
Empire/Napolean Total War
Final Fantasy XIII
Forza 3
God of War III
Grid
Heavy Rain
Killzone 2
King's Bounty
Mini Ninjas
Mirror's Edge
Stalker series
Team Fortress 2/Left 4 Dead series (if supersampled)
Tomb Raider Underworld
Uncharted 2
"

I would sacrifice graphics for a great story and meaningful game play anytime, but this is a Good list to compare others. i just finished Batman AA and WOW. However i would add Bioshock, and the last couple COD games have been nice.
