Anyone else disappointed with Rainbow Six Vegas as the free new Games with Gold on xbox live? I mean it was an alright game at the time I guess.....7 years ago.....

Not to start any fanboy shenanigans or anything but PSN has Assassins Creed 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Saints Row The Third, Spec Ops: The Line, Uncharted 3 among many others all free with ps+.

Is there ever anything that people can't complain about?

Well Oscar_Explosion's right.

This probably wasn't planned out as well as you might hope. I personally figure it is reactionary.

Moral of the story is... don't bitch bro. Don't download it, don't buy an Xbone. If you're feeling chipper go buy a Ps3. if you own one, shut the fuck up and play it.

Queued it up, will never play it just like all the other games Thus far. Go play and play the Playstation.

Also i'd take this over Ass Creed 3 any day.

I'd argue that the Calypso Casino multiplayer map, alone, trumps all of those Playstation Plus games combined.

Okay not true, but it was honestly only a slight exaggeration.

Yah man the games with gold lineup so far has been hugely disappointing, however it has introduced me to games I wouldn't have played otherwise.

Dead Rising 2 seems to be alright.

This is Microsoft... I don't know why anyone expected anything after the first month.

Sony went at this from the point of view of somehow charging for multiplayer on PSN so they created the service with the intention of giving away lots of games now so that they could transition into something like 20/30 games a year on PS4/Vita. MS has no incentive to do it because they've charged for so long and people are already subscribed.

@vaddixbell: Whether they have an incentive to do it or not, if they're going to do it, it makes no sense for them to be doing as poor a job of it as they are. I assume the reason Microsoft started releasing free games was to reverse its mercenary reputation before the XBone comes out. If they're going to release games that few people will take advantage of, they're just wasting whatever resources it took to make these deals.

Absolutely.

Is the Games for Gold just until the launch of the xbone (i think they said something along these lines at e3) or does Microsoft plan on continuing it after and include the xbone?

#18 Posted by bigsmoke77 (789 posts) -

It is a pretty shitty offering but you always have to remember that the game is free FOREVER if you download it, unlike PS plus you only get the games while signed up. There is pros to cons to both systems, PS Plus is the better system tho.

This is just until the launch. If I was a betting man I would say they have revamped it to be more competitive with PSN's version. Right now the only advantage they have is you can keep the game, which gamers really don't seem to give a shit about.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is the South African game free at the moment. Now if there were only some way to create a free Microsoft account for a month...

The big difference is PSN's subscription game service is a big selling point for PSN. The games for gold thing is just MS gifting games to gold subscribers because Sony simply came up with a better idea then them. I don't get how you would be upset about this. They aren't marketing games for gold as some major selling point for gold they are just giving gold members older games.

Can we stop saying Xbone now? Not that it was ever fresh or clever but its as played out as M$. It's the Calvin Pissing of internet jargon.

@danmcn12: I'm not upset, I'm just observing that it seems like a poor strategy. And I also disagree with your premise that the service isn't intended to sell units or at the very least, retain current customers of XBL Gold..

They've only been doing this for 2.5 months now. Give them time to make deals and we will see better comes coming. They might even be waiting to go balls out until the X1 is released, we won't know.

#27 Posted by laserbolts (5322 posts) -

I am not surprised that Microsoft are putting up 7 year old games. It's either that or their deal of the week will be 25% off dlc for a game no one gives a shit about anymore.

I thought this "ended" at the end of the year. I presume they had most of the deals in place when they set that endpoint. They also called out two of the biggest titles, AC2 and Halo 3. I don't think it's gonna get better unless it is revamped and continued on Xbox One.

Yeah resurrecting this thread because of Microsoft's June Games with Gold promotion. They had during the countdown to New Years sale Dark Souls and Charlie Murder with a discounted, now they're giving them away for free just five/six months later.

What a jip.

If it makes you feel any better, the PS4 has only been available for a little over six months, and Trine 2: The Complete Story is going to be free in a few days. This is despite the fact that it was priced at 19.99 when it was first released, and still costs that much today.

There is some really good news in all of this, though. I don't own Dark Souls, Charlie Murder, or Trine 2.

:)

On the bright side, at least you didn't pay much for them.
