...also please include any game you rented or demoed that made you glad you didn't buy it.  Bullets I've dodged are (off the top of my head):

Star Fox Adventures  (rented)
Demon's Souls
Star Wars Galaxies

Prince of Perisia 2008. Man that game looked good, played well, but had no staying power was bored after 2 hours. Thank god I rented it from a friend instead.

Mafia 2 because I ended up getting it free on Steam.

WoW. I started MMOs with Ultima Online and pretty much ended my affiliation with them after both Dark Age of Camelot and Anarchy Online failed to impress me. I had played Everquest enough by that point and didn't need to play it in a sci-fi setting or with prettier graphics. I gave WoW a spin on the free demo in hopes it was something special and, well....it wasn't.

Oh, my brother just bought some graphics cards or something and they gave him Mafia 2 codes.  He had like 4 of them so I got one.  I was close to buying it just because I was bored, but then he emailed me a code :D

Crackdown 2. I enjoyed the first one and its copy-cat, Prototype. Downloaded the demo and realized that I just didn't want to go through all that orb collecting again. Maybe I'll pick it up if it ever drops to $30, but so glad I didn't spend the full $60.

Crackdown 2. While the first was fun, the second looks the same and I'd rather wait until it drops in price if I ever do get it.

MOST games I'm really glad I don't buy. I don't buy many. But I came really close to buying Modern Warfare 2 on release. I really loved the first, but for whatever reason, I held out on the second.... glad I did.

Sad thing is, I'm a buyer. In Singapore there's probably only like 1 crappy rent service and all the demos are delayed, so I get hyped up because of QLs and reviews. As such, I'm quite an impulsive buyer and will just go out and buy the game and then realize I really hate it and play about 1/4 of it.

Disciples III
man what a letdown, and I had high hopes for it too. Didn't take me more than 5 mins of game time to realize I didn't want anything to do with it.

#33 Posted by RE_Player1 (7560 posts) -

Just Cause 2. Rented it because the GB guys recommended it... not my type of game.

WET and Alpha Protocol. I was so stoked for AP but after hearing how broken the gameplay was I had to turn it down.

you lucky S.O.B.   I picked up Two Worlds, put it in for about 5 minutes and felt dirty, cheap and used.

Thankfully I have friends who are really into MMOs that allowed me to play on their accounts. Aion was the biggest XP grind I've seen since the original EQ.

2010's Medal of Honor. Good god that beta was awful, people will yell at me for this; but there is no way they can be refined into a good MP experience.
However, singleplayer might pull one out. Still cancelled my pre-order.

And Dragon Age: Origins. Not hating on that game at all, tried it for a good 5 hours, I just realised I couldn't be bothered learning a new rpg world lore.
Oh yeah, and boiling point, that game is hilariously broken.

Lost Planet 2. I really enjoyed the SP in the first and after playing LP2 at a friend's house and seeing how badly Capcom ruined the SP in LP2. I was happy I didn't buy it. The same also goes for Resident Evil 5. As a mostly SP gamer I'm starting to feel like the red headed step child.

Alien Versus Predator from earlier in the year.

The Quick Look of the demo made me think just a little bit of playing the Gloom mod for Quake II, or the Natural Selection mod for Half-Life. But no. Turns out it sucks.
