We all know about the backlog, the tons of games stacked up you know you'll pick up again and beat, but there is something worse than the backlog. There are the games you know you'll never beat, a whole different stack from your backlog. So I ask you all, what games do you own that you know deep down you will never pick up or beat? Personally for me it would be Assassin's Creed 2. I picked it up for PS3 for $10 a couple months ago. I played it a bit and thought it was pretty good. Unfortunately a whole mess of games and stuff, like school and work, came crashing down and it has been sitting on my shelf ever since. I would like to say I am going to go back and play it but realistically I know that will never happen, no fault to the game that's just my first world problem I have to live with :(
Games you own that you will literally never finish.
@Cloudenvy: I once thought I would never finish Borderlands too but I actually ended up getting the platinum trophy. Now I have to beat those last two dlc packs...
Final Fantasy XII. I bought it at PAX East because I really wanted it several years ago but never actually got to play it. I didn't really intend on finishing it anyway.
@FluxWaveZ: I realized I too got bored with Pokemon Black so I sold it quickly to get the majority of my money back. Heart Gold is good enough for me whenever I need my Pokemon fill.
Dunno about literally, but there are many games that I'll figuratively never finish. And thousands that I'll philosophically never finish. :P
One that comes to mind is Oblivion. I hate that I can't get into it, but the setting is just far, far too dull to me. I fear the same thing from Skyrim. That sort of fantasy setting bores me to tears.
Magicka, Dragon Age 2 are the only two I know for sure I won't finish. I have 20 or so games that I have that are not finished but I want to eventually finish them up by next fall.
Probably KOTOR. Bought it during the Steam sale and it's not very fun so far.Get past the first planet if you can. It is pretty boring, but as soon as you become a Jedi it is SO fun. I also bought it during the summer Steam sale and LOVED it so very much after that first planet.
Spent 163 hours on Mount and Blade single player over the past year and I'm about half done taking over the world, not sure that'll ever happen. Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts as well, gets pretty tired near the end. Magicka was mentioned and I agree, it's fun for the first hour, then deaths and shitty checkpoints get boring, or you use the same spell combo over and over... and that gets boring.

Yea they really shot themselves in the foot with that first planet, it goes on forever! I'd definitely second powering through it, once the game opens up it's much much better.
there's this game on Steam called Winter Voices that looks interesting. Combat's unique (turn-based FF Tactics style but your attacks are to repel fears and develop confidence against them) it looks incredibly beautiful and musical scores awesome....but the writing is severely pretentious, the game has a sluggish pace and you can't really "win" most battles, you just survive as long as you can. oh and I bought the Prologue and there's like what...4 episodes of the stupid thing and never beat the Prologue so yeah, definitely that one

While I love KOTOR, probably played it 5 or 6 times. I do admit the first planet Taris is boring in spots, especially when you go underground. Get past it because literally right after that is when it gets good and you basically become a Jedi.
A lot. Not because I don't like them (well, not most of 'em anyway), but because I'm a moody bipolar fuck.

Dragon Age
Magicka, Darksiders, King Arthur: Collection, Might and magic V, Dark Messiah might and magic, Homefront, Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Titan Quest, Zeno Clash, Sniper, Red Factions: Guerrilla, Kane and Lynch 2, Garshasp, Never Winter Nights 2, Fallout: NV. I seriously wont go back to any of those, all of which I got during steam sales....
At least Eternal SonataYeah I got too far in that one too long ago to bring myself to go back to it.
I never really know though. If you asked me three years ago if I would've ever finished Mass Effect or Dead Rising (and both their sequels subsequently) I would've would've said no, and now they both sit near the top of my favourite franchises of the generation.
I just picked up Saints Row 2 and have been trying to finish 1 because of it.... But they just keep bringing up more and more missions. I think it will happen eventually but it sure is taking a long time.
Pretty much all my Steam games. I... I just can't resist when you sell me a great game like Dead Space for 5 bucks. Of course I'll buy it! Never mind I've already played through it 4 times.
In terms of console games... fucking Demon's Souls. I bought the Special Edition. I'm never getting past that first level. It's just not going to happen.
Oblivion. Now whenever I put in the game there is way to much stuff to do, I try to go do something and I get bored.
Banjo Kazooie.
The World Ends with you, Chrono Trigger, FFIII, FFXII are all game I put down for years. But right now I'm in a Jrpg kick. So who knows, maybe I'll get through them. I put Persona 3 down for a while then one day decided to finish it up and 80 hours later i did.
- Dragon Quest 8. Got past that tough as hell, middle of the game boss Dhoulmagus, played it for a little bit more then stopped. I still have my memory card but no PS2 and I'm not starting over, also I have lost interest since long.
- Dragon Age, stopped playing it at the beginning for about a year maybe, picked it up again and everything about it put me off.
- GTAIV Didn't like it, watched my friend beat it instead.
But seriously there is like a ton others, mostly RPGs.
I still have hope that I one day will put in FFXIII and try it and who knows, maybe I'll continue Fate of Resonance in a few years. Haven't totally given up on Eternal Sonata (which I bought recently) yet either.
I like short games.
Edit: One game I thought was gonna end up in the "Never Finish" pile was Dark Chronicle, but I ended up finishing the Epilouge 6 months to a year later amd feel pretty good about that. By that time the mechanics, that I had burned out on at the time, felt fresh enough again to pull through.
