Craig is a law and politics graduate from the UK who somehow found his way into the media side of the gaming industry. As well as being a member of the Gamewise staff, he is Editor-in-Chief of gaming blog gamrReview. How could he have known Gamewise would be copying Giant Bomb before the site launched? Something is going on here.

What about that name, Fred Peterson? Is he a gamrReview staff member? He's not on the list. But another familiar name is: Drew Hendricks.

Woah. That is bananas. So, Hendricks writes an article because he "found a site that he thought was interesting", but also happens to have have somewhat of a connection to? To me it seems like the odds are better he knew about that site for a while then somehow never found out until he stumbled upon it. That seems unethical, or shady as shit at least. Maybe that is why after 20+ hours there isn't even a sentence on the Huff Po article saying the work might be copied.

Lordandrew, I applaud you. That's some Sherlock shit right there.

Ok so, I went to look at that Felicia page, right? It seems like it was already edited within the last five minutes that babychoochoo posted his comment here, but maybe I didn't look in the right spots [[EDIT: I went back to look at the gamewise page and all of babychoochoo's words are still there, word for word]]. Anyway, I noticed there was only one contribute to that specific page on gamewise: Machina.

Well a quick click to Machina's profile, and the description for the user is: "Gamewise Editor & gamrReview Editor-in-Chief"

Seems like a Craig Snow if I'd ever seen one.

Although I'm no expert (or even a person who knows anything, really), I went and searched through the 962 lines of html code for the Halo franchise page and found 19 matches for the term "api", but they were all in reference to Google and Facebook calls from what I could see (bear in mind that I really don't know what I'm looking for to be honest). What I imagine they did was rip our data into a program/application of some kind and then make a database from it, before pushing that database information to their so-called website.

The series centers on an interstellar war between humanity and a theocratic alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The Covenant are led by their religious leaders, The Prophets, and worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitic Flood. Many of the games center on the experiences of Master Chief John-117, a cybernetically enhanced human super-soldier, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. The term "Halo" refers to Halo megastructures: large, habitable ringed structures, similar to the Orbitals in Iain M Banks' Culture novels, or author Larry Niven's Ringworld.</p> <p><br>The series has been praised as being among the best first-person shooters on a video game console, and is considered the Microsoft Xbox's "killer app". This has led to the term "Halo killer" being used to describe console games that aspire, or are considered, to be better than Halo. Fueled by the success of Halo: Combat Evolved, and immense marketing campaigns from publisher Microsoft, its sequels went on to break various sales records. Halo 3 sold more than US$170 million worth of copies in the first twenty-four hours of release, breaking the record set by Halo 2 three years prior. Halo: Reach, in turn, broke the record set by Halo 3, selling $200 million USD worth of copies on its first day of release. The games have sold over 40 million copies worldwide, and all Halo merchandise has grossed almost $3 billion.</p> <p><br>Strong sales of the games led to the franchise's expansion to other mediums; there are multiple bestselling novels, graphic novels, and other licensed products. Beyond the original trilogy, other "Halo" games have branched off into other video game genres, including Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game produced as developer Ensemble Studios' last project. Bungie also contributed the expansion Halo 3: ODST and a prequel Halo: Reach, their last project for the franchise. A high-definition remake of the first game entitled Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was released in November 2011. Internet detectives can be really creepy. But no one has posted anyone's addresses, phone numbers or other personal information or stuff like that (and no one will do that because it's a major breach of our TOS and they'd probably be banned for doing so). They've just determined that the guy who wrote the Huffington Post article seems to be affiliated with the Gamewise. Which is super shady, and should be investigated and brought to the attention of those in a position to do something about it.

Lets look at this from a Devil's Advocate view. 'Cause you know, forums are for discussions.

Lets walk through the mind of the stalker/s, what traits does it have, what problems & what drives it have into committing these actions. Well lets review the evidence and make random assumptions cause' that's why I internet.

I look around Giantbomb and think about a way to earn money by copying it. I make some changes with the cosmetics like more white. I look at Destructoid and add the user editorial and article section as a main feature (which is actually quite interesting). I remove accounts and let people only connect and comment through Facebook which probably reduces a lot of cost with having your own account system. Then I realise that the site has no content for the popular stuff and the team isn't big enough to do everything themselves so something is created to copy all the information into what ever system thing that I have. Using the giantbomb api temporally in this tool that copies things I get rid of it and destroy the traces then launch the site or after the site is launched I incrementally put all the stuff in so that people actually use the site as a wiki.

I then make two bad choices:

1st is that all the information that people would want to see is constrained in a 500px wide space which actually only fits 480px space for text cause the right and left 10px bars needs to be a gradient cause of aesthetic. This tiny width makes the site bad at its function.

2nd...

Might be old news and not as mind blowing as the previous ones but I decided to search what the Gamewise co-founder and Gamrreview founder (VGchartz owner, as stated on that list lordandrew found) was up to and found he added an overview for "The Legend of Heroes" franchise page, but its empty now. Using trusty Google cache made me find the original still up on 15th February. I have that blurring issue because I dont want to link my facebook to them so inspecting the element I found what was underneath and while it doesn't match up to Giantbombs database, simply copypasting the first line made me find where it did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Heroes. Again im not sure if Wikipedia is kind of fine with this as theyre pretty open arent they?

Pretty sure Wikipedia is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike license. Which, I'm pretty sure means you can copy, modify and generally do what the hell you like with it as long as you attribute the author. Naturally it doesn't seem Gamewise has done this.

Ha, those fucking guys. After looking through some caches of the site, they had copied an awful lot of stuff I've written about Resident Evil junk, too. Not surprising given all of the other evidence in this thread already, but I was amused all the same.

This is one Hell of a rabbit hole given all of the connections between huffpost, gamewise, gamrReviewer; it'll probablly all eventually be revealed that Jeff himself created the site. He just couldn't bear being kept under the oppressive thumb of CBSi any longer, so he decided to secretly port over all of our wiki's data and start a new!.. It's either that or the Russian Mafia are involved.

Anywhoo it's actually been really fun reading through all of the developments in here surrounding this fiasco. Fucking real life detective work, scummy cover-ups, and Russian Mafiosi... Trust me, they're coming.

The old help page said it was licensed as CC-BY-NC. But that still means they have to attribute and not use commercially. They're not attributing and they're using it commercially. That's two strikes. And if they're using the API, they're violating its terms too. Three strikes, Gamewise is out.

One question: it is already established that it's the site itself who is pulling the data from GB and not some guy who is copy/paste-ing this shit, right? I mean, just like @jakob187: exemplified, there is 0 contributors to that page and yet it's filled with content. It must be a code built-in that is doing this, right?
