that guy's not a creeper he's just lonely. :(
Gaming as a Girl

My female cousin is a fairly avid gamer, she spends most of her time in party chat, talking to her boyfriend 1000 miles away that she met on Halo, and other random dudes she met online. She talks almost exclusive to creepy emo guys (just picture @ThreeMegabytes:). When she's staying at my place, she's almost always talking in party chat. The constant flirting she gets purely because she's a girl with an Xbox account is borderline depressing, and some of the things they say to her is almost disturbing. She just laughs it off though, I think she enjoys the attention, after all, she's gone through three 'boyfriends' in three different states that she's gone off and 'visited', and she's only 19. Although, she's also tight with some of those TSGH 'hacker gang' douchebags, so I don't know what to think.
Also, is your avatar a Walrus' mouth? I always think it's a mask or some kind of scarred face at first glance and it creeps me out. Like the nostril is a guys eye, and the snout is like the side of his face...
Just noticed your profile name. I'm an idiot.
" @TooWalrus: Aw man, now you're just giving ThreeMegabytes hope. Also, is your avatar a Walrus' mouth? I always think it's a mask or some kind of scarred face at first glance and it creeps me out. Oh, and I stole my avatar from the early days of Giantbomb, you can thank Vinny.
So THIS is where Zombie got the idea to ask those questions about that site. It all makes sense now :P
" @PixelPrinny: Say what? "Sorry, wasn't aimed at you. Zombiepie had asked for my thoughts on that site a little while ago and I had never heard of it till he mentioned it. I imagine he brought it up because he read this thread.

I don't play a ton of games online, but in my experience, most dudes aren't skeazy creepy or dickish. I have had bad experiences, sure, but I have also had pretty bad experiences at work from customers who think creeping on salesgirls is a cool fun time.
So..yes. I do think girls get the brunt of shitty interaction online because there are assholes in the world, however, it is not limited to online gaming. It's probably just the same dudes who are jerks IRL, who are emboldened through anonymity of the internet.
EDIT: oh yeah, people who say that they don't understand why people don't just mute the folks who are harassing them? I'm sure they ARE muting them. The point is that they shouldn't have to. There is no legitimate excuse for someone to be a dick.

I was all ready to come in here and denounce people for giving female gamers special treatment and female gamers acting like they want special treatment (or attention for that matter). I mean, none of the active female posters on this site pimp themselves especially hard and I respect that. But then I realized that this thread was mostly@ThreeMegabytes: being creepy, so I stopped.
ha, i liked that website it made my day.
the other week i was playing black ops. somebody asked if i was a girl because i had companion cube and the hearts emblem and title. i said no it's the companion cube and then i got called a fag. it just made my night because of that. i don't care but i thought it was funny.
a lot of girls are just attention whores online.

Please stop, your behavior is blatantly inappropriate. "" If those bitches don't want to be insulted they should stay in the kitchen where they belong. Right, Adachi? "
" @ThreeMegabytes said:I got a good, hardy laugh out of that. Thank you." Well I if I get a vibe that she's fat or ugly I won't send her a friend request. "Yeah, alright. That totally makes sense. Adding all of the girls you find attractive on an Internet message board or in online gaming will get you closer to attaining your goal of finding the right person and not having sex with them. "

"" @Bocam said:Persona "" @ThreeMegabytes: If you don't get that reference you don't deserve to be here. "What reference? "
" @___pocalypse: Here's a question I've often wondered. I've never attempted it, but can you imagine a situation where it's not creepy or inappropriate to ask someone out at their job, like a sales clerk or something? I'd guess it's more about how you go about it. "I've been asked out in both creepy and non creepy ways. The non creepy was a guy who was a regular for something like two years, and eventually asked me to get coffee when I was taking the recycling out (or something like that, I wasn't in the store actively working) and said he was sorry he had to ask me out at work. He wasn't a stranger since he was a regular and I had had actual conversations with him, and he was polite and respectful (kept his distance, no trying to touch me lol).
One dude who I had very little interaction with kept trying to have conversations with me when I was obviously working. I was always friendly towards him, but made it clear I had stuff to do. He did this repeatedly over several weeks until he asked me out for coffee, at which point I declined and he still stood there and tried to reiterate the question. I'm sure he was a nice guy but "oh, no thanks! Sorry" definitely means no.
Yeah Jeff and Vinny's reactions, I still can't believe he turned out to be such a psycho though..." @Panic_Switch: Yeah, watch the spoiler video I linked on the last page... it's amazing. "
@ThreeMegabytes: Uh.. You commented with the video still in it; so it sorta defeats the whole purpose of the spoiler warning. lol
Hah misunderstood would be pushing in it, but wait... Since this isn't the Persona 4 thread nevermind. xD" @Panic_Switch said:

@ThreeMegabytes: Oh! it's fine then, no harm done I guess :)
" @Portis: Yeah, I'm not saying blacks, gays, women, or foreigners can't take it, but when you hear that crap every game, it's got to influence your desire to play. It's just an oppressive atmosphere. Even when I'm not the target I sometimes don't want to play so I don't have to listen to it. I know I can mute, but I shouldn't have to. "Oh for me, it definitely does. Your point really resonates with me because I literally stopped playing Halo 3 because of this kind of thing. Muting is a great function, but I was having to mute 80 percent of the people I came across in Halo 3 who were actually talking -- and I just got tired of that. And I do enjoy a dirty joke or what have you, but the stuff I was constantly hearing was just bottom feeding ignorance. Whether they were trying to get a rise out of people or not, who wants to hear that stuff, man? :(
And nowadays, this has a bearing to an extent on what games I'll buy to play online. I really enjoy playing games online, but I'll normally skip over the online portion of huge, huge games like Call of Duty: Black Ops because I already know what it's going to be like. I want to play games where everyones having fun and talking, not just throwing mindless mean spirited insults at each other. I get that fun experience with games like Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Blur, or even MAG. Not super popular games, but the comminities know how to have fun.
Remember that Call of Duty MW2 didn't let you be in a party for some types?
Well take that game's audience + my voice and you got a proper shitstorm of teenagers going mental
Round start > Mute all!
Like Erzs said, I don't turn on my xbox to find a date or something.
I play games to enjoy myself, escape reality and live a fantasy to get away from the real world and its problems.
My favorite thing to tell creepers is 'Kthnxbai' and block all communications. Easy and quick!

- Plug in mic.
- Mute mic.
- Lower mic volume
- Put it down.
- ???
- Profit.
No, it takes place in the real world, usually with teens, and they travel into an alternate dimension which has the SMT monsters and whatnot in it. The alternate dimension tends to bleed through and affect the real world, needing to be stopped and put right by the kids. (I think the heroes being teens is a fairly recent thing for the series, P3 and beyond).
@TaliciaDragonsong:
Do you also get a lot of the white knight super-defensive dudes who have to "protect" the game girl? I find them almost as annoying.
" I just laugh it off. Having been on the internet for 11+ years I'm sure heard it pretty much everything, and the awesome dudes I've met far outweigh the bad. Most people are idiots on Xbox Live anyway, and as others have said, will run their mouth off at anyone whether they have boobs or not. The other end of the spectrum just comes off as really pathetic and I think I actually find it sadder when they follow some pixels around and suck up to them like a puppy-dog. On the occasions I've felt uncomfortable sharing my gender, it's been because of those guys rather than the other lot.On the whole I don't get a lot of abuse anyway. I guess because my usernames are gender-neutral and the odd time I talk, it's usually been established that I know what I'm doing.Although I did once acquire a stalker and could never quite decide if he was hilarious or terrifying... "All about engagement.
Yep, but its sad that communicating is almost impossible for girls in team based games.
In MW2 I had people come jump/crouch in front of my avatar the entire time and in Reach they decided that teamkilling a girl was more fun then winning the match.
Its silly, real silly.
@Wrighteous86:
Its funny that I've seen most stereotypes pass by in these years yeah.
The white knights are often as bad if not worse then people who tell ya plain out they got sick plans with ya.
That said I do enjoy the leadership aspect of it, it worked wonders in my WoW guild and in Monster Hunter I used to be the gunner shouting orders and what not to my 3 melee friends/slaves/buddies (xD).
" @ThePhantomnaut:Agreed. Damn boys and their puberty and rock music.

Nothing wrong with rock music!

How gaming as a girl works in the online world.
Did you say you were a girl?:yes-----then now your open to a new set of questions!
no?---then continue on as usual.
If you said yes: Are you winning?---yes? Then your a stupid fat bitch who has no life.
---no? Then you suck at video games because it's a "man's" thing.
In reality. An average woman is playing a game with a bunch of teens who have the Bieber bowl and no girl friend so since they probably don't or can't find a girl friend they bitch and moan about it. Plus it's the age old thing where boys don't want to get beat by girls.
Oh well. Cest La Vie.
Quick, lets come up with another genre! >.>
More music, less yelling online when a girl beats you to death with your own flag.
this thread reminds me of the times I used to hit on girls on Last.fm and Stickam.
Those were fun days.
" @ThePhantomnaut: Quick, lets come up with another genre! >.> More music, less yelling online when a girl beats you to death with your own flag. "DATS MURDER. Male, female, robot, fembot, alien, doesn't matter: JAIL TIME.
I only checked the responses to me actually! :P
And now I must go to work, for some real life getting hit on.
Can I mute my boss?
If I'm not mistaken, he's the one in the video I posted, or at least someone from the same GFW Radio. He's awesome at griefing, but I feel terrible for the girl xD" @JoeyRavn: Reminds me of Shawn Elliot from GFW griefing TF2 as "Ralphie" when a girl's on mic.
