My gaming confession: I tried playing Half Life 2 a few months ago. I played it for an hour, found it boring and never played it again.

What are your guys gaming confessions?

#2 Edited by zFUBARz (674 posts) -

in age of empires 2 I pretty much always just spawn the cobra and wreck shit up. Still loved the game enough to buy the HD edition though.

#3 Edited by Animasta (14820 posts) -

I have never played Crusader Kings 2 without cheating.

Also the Void, I never beat that legitimately (because that game is effing hard)

#4 Edited by Nezza (386 posts) -

I have never completed any game in the major Nintendo franchises (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid), despite owning owning multiple titles from each series over many, many console generations.

I'll take a good set of ticking bars and numbers over a good story any day.

#7 Posted by Marcsman (3375 posts) -

Mass Effect 3 might be the first game I truly quit and never finished.

@nezza: That's what you call being a normal human with other stuff to do. :-d

#10 Edited by Kidavenger (3867 posts) -

@nezza: I don't think I have either, Mario definitely not (never liked mario games), Zelda, I finished Neutopia does that count?, You can't really finish Donkey Kong, I've never even played a DK country game, Metroid, I've only played the first one, I played it alot and still have it at home but I don't think I ever finished it.

I have over 500 games on Steam and I've finished maybe 40 of them.

I've never finished a Lucasarts adventure game.

I've had Red Dead Redemption since it came out, it's still wrapped, I just never got around to it.

I liked Brink

#11 Posted by Atmonauti (12 posts) -

In Demon's Souls, I used glitches to beat some of the bosses.

I'm still proud of beating the game, though.

When I was 17... I... I.. rubbed one out to the DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball trailer they had on Xbox live. 7 years later I still feel disgusted with myself...

OH GOD! being a teenager was fucking terrible!

#13 Edited by CaLe (4216 posts) -
  • I've started playing every Zelda game and never finished even one of them.
  • I ninja looted some stuff in WoW when I didn't know any better.
  • I played FFVII with cheats.

#14 Posted by Veektarius (5299 posts) -

When I was in my early teens, I played my first MMO, a game called "The Realm" (predated Everquest by a few years). Not understanding how these games worked, but having played games like Final Fantasy that gave you a party of characters, I assumed that such was the case here, and I would get to create each of the characters. My first character was a woman, and then discovered I only got one character.

People started assuming I was a girl and I did not correct them, and maintained the illusion for several months, including with my guild, before guilt broke me down and I confessed. (since I was young and most other people there were as well, nothing really scandalous really came of it, though)

I once intentionally fed when playing a particularly frustrating game of Super Monday Night Combat.

I felt the same way when I first played it; I honestly recommend you play for a little longer, the intro is decidedly very slow. Having said that though, maybe it's worth just starting on Episode 2 (it gives you a recap on everything at the start), and I personally would say that Episode 2 is the pinnacle of the Half-Life franchise.

Anyway, I played the original WarioWare game on 3DS and used the circle pad (instead of the D-pad) to play some of the microgames...

#17 Edited by BaconGames (3775 posts) -

I'm totally a dirty ROM pirate. Well, I don't do it that often but for major Nintendo games and such that I missed I recently dug back into emulation. Goddamn even if my CPU isn't quite powerful enough to run it at 100%, Super Mario Galaxy looks gorgeous on a 1080p internal render.

Mostly though I've just been catching up on a few GBA titles I missed out on. Hot damn WarioWare is great.

#18 Posted by MeganeAgain (125 posts) -

I own a bunch of them, but I have never finished a main series Final Fantasy game. Though, I did finish a bunch of spin-offs, most notably the Tactics games.

#19 Edited by Hockeymask27 (3687 posts) -

Never beat a zelda game from start to finish.

#20 Posted by MetalGearSunny (7465 posts) -

I have never played a Zelda game. Ever.

#21 Posted by crusader8463 (14744 posts) -

While I'm not ashamed, I find it pretty funny that the first time I played and beat Chrono Trigger was on my original XBox. I softmodded it to install a custom OS that let me run a SNES emulator on it. It was the only game I ever got around to playing on the emulator, but I really enjoyed it.

#22 Edited by ArtelinaRose (1902 posts) -

Ocarina of Time is the only Zelda game I have ever finished.

Most games that are universally hailed as OMG ONE OF THE BEST OF THIS GENERATION MUST PLAY NOW!!!!!!! I kinda hate. I think Bastion is boring, Half Life 2 is an average shooter, all Call of Duty games are sooper boring, GTA4 is like holding my leg straight and having someboy push down on my knee really hard over and over, Red Dead Redemption was nothing memorable, Bioshock 1 was an average shooter with too many "stop and listen to this old timey voice diary WHY ARE THERE SO MANY JUST LYING AROUND", etc.

I have never finished a Mario game. In fact, I am terrible at them.

I have been playing female characters since I was about six or seven years old but the only game that I didn't realize I was only really allowed one gender on was Ragnarok Online. I started playing the part in Everquest. It stopped bothering me after a time, then I got used to it, and then it turned out to be kinda true. Oops!

I got a 360 as a joint birthday present from my friends and I think it's the worst console that has ever existed and has set gaming standards back for more years than its intended life cycle.

#25 Posted by believer258 (12697 posts) -

I played through Final Fantasy XIII.

I like what I've played of FFXII. Unfortunately, I haven't actually finished a Final Fantasy game yet.

My worst gaming sin, though, is... selling my PS2 to Gamestop. Who will join me in gaming Lucifer's eternally-chewing mouth?

Even worse, I own and have played a lot of the Final Fantasy games, but the only one I've ever bothered to beat was XIII.

#27 Posted by TooWalrus (13323 posts) -

I played Katawa Shoujo and didn't hate it.

#28 Edited by TruthTellah (9632 posts) -

@believer258: Well, FFXII is a decent game. I enjoyed it. Not everyone's favorite, but it's still a cool little game(and game world).

And hey, I think you'll be forgiven since you used a good Divine Comedy reference.

It's great until the part where it "opens up" and you get stuck grinding for hours on end.

I had an original XBOX, played a few games, liked a few of them, but ended up selling the system with all its games as they did nothing but take up space, gather dust, and none of the games I had held my appeal anymore. Stuck with Nintendo ever since, though I wonder if that was a mistake...

#35 Posted by maskedarcstrike (792 posts) -

Selling my classic games collection, below is a list of some of the games I sold. I left out PS2,NES,N64,GB,GBA,DS and Dreamcast titles I've owned in the past in the list. I've mentioned this in another thread before. No one has sinned as much as I. I don't mind not having some of the square PSX titles as much anymore since they're on PSN but still having a physical copy is nice for a shelf collection.

  • Snes titles
  • DKC 1-3 (1-2 were boxed w instructions)
  • Yoshi's Island (boxed w instructions)
  • Earthbound (cart)
  • Turtles in Time (cart)
  • Contra 3 (cart)
  • Super Metroid (boxed w instructions) purchased new for $6 at Target when it was incorrectly priced
  • Super Mario RPG (boxed w instructions)
  • Gradius 3 (boxed)
  • Super R-Type (boxed)
  • Secret of Mana (boxed) purchased at a Blockbuster clearance bin used for $10
  • Zelda LttP: (boxed w instructions)
  • 7th Saga (cart)
  • Kirby Super Star (cart)
  • Breath of Fire 2
  • All 3 Super Star Wars

  • PSX titles: All my PS1 games were with jewel case and instructions.
  • Einhander
  • Valyrie Profile
  • Brave Fencer Musashi
  • Parasite Eve 1-2
  • Star Ocean: The Second Story
  • Vagrant Story
  • G Darius (really regret this one, I purchased it new in a clearance bin at Wal-Mart for $10)
  • Kartia
  • Lunar 1-2 (complete with all the crazy stuff it came with)
  • Alundra
  • Wild Arms
  • FF 7-9, Tactics, Anthology (actually screw anthology the load times sucked)
  • Arc the Lad Collection
  • Breath of Fire 3 or 4? Can't remember which one I owned.
  • Suikoden 1-2 (I actually drove nearly 100 miles to buy Suikoden 2 at a Gamestop in Weatherford, TX)
  • SF Alpha 3
  • Xenogears

  • Gamecube
  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
  • Battalion Wars
  • Eternal Darkness
  • Tales of Symphonia
  • Skies of Arcadia Legends
  • Mario Sunshine
  • Metroid Prime 1-2
  • Viewtiful Joe

None of the beloved Nintendo products interests me, no Mario, no Zelda, no Metroid. Platformers for the sake of platforming also does nothing for me.

Despite being a huge fan of RPG, I don't think I have ever beaten a RPG without some form of money cheats or mods. Grinding for money and exp just mess up pacing for me.

For a game that has difficulty setting I usually pick the easiest possible with only a few exception.

@maskedarcstrike: That Xenogears could have easily sold for at least its original price especially before Square did a short second run. I remember picking it up used before the second run at a gamestop for slightly less than a new game's price.

Lunar 1 was an expensive used purchase...probably one of my worst game purchase.

Never finished GTA San Andreas. Got to San Fierro and got bored. And I never finished GTA3 because I corrupted my save file with only a few missions left after filling my garage with Rhinos for reasons unknown to me after more than a decade.

#40 Edited by supamon (1339 posts) -

I never actually finished FFVII and FFVIII. Played till the final area before the fight with Sephiroth in VII and stopped shortly after reaching the last disc of VIII.

I thought Duke Nukem Forever was okay.

I should point out, I'm not comfortable being okay with it, and I definitely don't like it. It's just a fact.

#42 Edited by Reisz (1604 posts) -

I've never finished Final Fantasy VIII, IX or XII despite loving all three.

Oh man, I also just realised after this weeks TNT that I never finished Doom or Doom II. . . . . . Considering how I lived my life in the 90's that's literally disgusting, weirdly enough I'm finding it difficult to go back to it now, Doom is pretty fun but these levels. God Damn.

Also I've never played System Shock 2 (till now got it working on my mac finally) or ANY Thief game.

OH also never played more then about an hour of Link to the Past or Earthbound.

Man, everyone else's "sins" so far amount to having opinions or not finishing a game. I don't want to be the only one who's confessed to actual acts of moral disrepute. C'mon people! Confess your sins ye good faithful of Giant Bomb dot com!
