In my previous blog post, I had foreshadowed that making teensy little SNES versions of the Bomb boys was on the cards, for use in the GBRPG that may or may not come to fruition. I've since made good on this threat (the sprites, not the game), and now the rest of the party are present to keep Ripped Vinny company. It would certainly be nice if this whole thing came about at some point, but until then I'll carry on with my usual trick of making static stuff that's not really of any use to anybody. Deal? Deal.
 
While I was making these wee buggers, I had Quannum's Bombonyall running through my head the whole time. Note to self: contact the Quannum crew and see if we can't license an instrumental of this track for the forthcoming game.
 
 
Additional note to self: stop pretending that you're able to contact the Quannum crew in any way whatsoever, let alone get permission to use one of their tunes.

They're great, although ryan looks like the chief detective from monk if he chose a career as an American footballer.

Good. Now someone is finally making the Giant Bomb RPG that I had a dream about once. Now just make it episodic, and make sprite models of Drew, Dave, Alex Navarro, Rich Gallup, and Paul Barnett. Then have them team up to fight the forces of evil in San Francisco and give everyone at least three skill trees and then it will be exactly like my dream. Oh, and have Ben Coello do all the art.

So classes/skill trees...
I would say Vinny clearly is purely physical attacks (warrior/monk/knight) .
Ryan I would think is focused on offensive magic (black/red mage).
Brad is support and healing magic focused (white mage/alchemist/summoner) .
Jeff maybe has a blend of physical and magic (hunter/ninja).

Heh. It was a conscious design decision, and I toyed with it for a while. I've stylised everyone so they (hopefully) all looked a bit more like Japanese sprites, and alternate reality Brad just looked better like that. Well, that and I needed to show off his sexy sideburns.
 
Jeff, on the other hand, ended up looking like a pig, no matter what I did with the pixels. Just assume that everyone else has got small ears, and RPG Sprite Brad has abnormally large, character-defining ones. Please? For me?

That being said, Vinny should also have the ability to make random comments to confuse enemies.
 
Actually, now I've gone down that line of thinking, should all their attacks be based on funny crap they've said and done? Ryan could have the ability to pass out on his back as some defensive move, Jeff could stun enemies by shouting SCIENCE... man, I'm going to have to go back and listen to every podcast they've ever made, just to get some ideas. This is already rapidly turning into a hefty endeavour. I always knew I had a magnum opus in me. Just not like this (oooh, there's their death phrase tied up, too).
 
Of course, we'd have to get Gamer Grub to fund this project in return for in-game product placement.

Awesome work there. As for an attack, Jeff should have an massively SP consuming move in which the whole crew jump into a truck and hit a big ass ramp, right onto the enemies! Saying that, who or what would be the enemies in this epic RPG?
 
EDIT: More ideas
 
@buzz_clik: Jeff's SCIENCE attack should equip the whole team with laser rifles or at least give them all an attack boost. Whereas Brad could use his soothing voice to stun or put enemies to sleep. What say you?
 Also, Vinny wields a tripod.

Not sure at the moment, although I'm sure this thread will generate some ideas.
 
As for your ideas, I think they're all pretty darn cool. I especially like the laser-equipping and Brad-attack ones! Of course, this is now making me feel that since Giant Bomb's got such a great community, it'd be nice for everybody to pipe up with ideas. If this game was chock full of people's input, I think it'd be a great reflection of the quality of GB.

Vinny should have an attack with a slight chance of insta-kill, but also a slight chance to misfire and cast bufu, healing the enemy. EDIT: Also causes Jeff to enrage and deal more damage next turn.

Jeff should probably have special attacks that are based off Midnight Brown Songs. Brad should have a bunch of stereotypical southern attacks (Toboggan!), Ryan can... curse or something, and Vinny can cast spells from Shin Megami Tensei. And Hama has a 2% hit chance.

Heh. I don't know if you could call it Bufu for legal reasons. Maybe Fubu? No, wait... that's a brand name already. Fooboo? Bofo?

Not to be too critical of your work. I just wanted to make a suggestion, pertaining to Ryan's beard mostly. I think it would look nicer if instead of using gray for outlines, you used darker shades of the surrounding colors. So, instead of gray outline for his shirt, maybe a dark red. I don't know how that would look exactly, with the shading and all. But it wouldn't hurt to try it out, because right now it looks like Ryan has a big mustache, and the bottom beard part is his mouth.

Sure thing, I hear what you're saying. Thing is, it may look nicer in some instances, but the point of the dark outline is so that it shows up against any background colour.

I spent a good part of today drawing and redrawing sprites in an attempt to make an animation for one of my tracks. It didn't work out so well. :P
