By tiered, I mean a separate avatar for each of his review scores. He seems to be stepping up over the past week or so with reviews, and he should get a nice little avatar for each star, similar to Brad, Jeff, Ryan and the rest of the main gang. They're always amusing to look at, and his coy army avatar certainly doesn't fit all scores.
Get Alex a tiered avatar!
Regardless of what Jeff says about the review images "giving the wrong idea" (or whatever he said), I'd saddened that they're going to stop using them. It gave GB a sense of style that other websites don't have. Oh well.
Oh man, I had no idea. That's actually a huge bummer, I love them. And @MooseyMcMan , I totally agree about them giving a sense of style.
What's the reasoning behind this? Were people getting confused about what image correlated to which score or what?
Edit: grammar, oops.

Nobody should be surprised by this. It's just another feature/cool idea that Giant Bomb came up with that, at the end of the day, just seems like too much work. Writing reviews is easy, sitting on a couch shooting the shit while ripping into a video game is easy, but hiring an artist (shit, from in the community even, I've seen some talented people here)? Nah, that's too much work for them.
I thought the reason was as simple as they don't use that artist any more, so rather than recommission new ones for everyone and maybe have this same problem in the future, they bin them all.F that, I'll do 'em all for free. Here's a little piece from my portfolio:
Sucks, I think they are really cool. Hope they come up with something else to differentiate between the dudes.

What about buzz_clik? He does t-shirts all the time for them. I don't want to speak for him or anything, but I'm sure he'd do it for free or a very reasonable rate.
Aww, I don't want them to get rid of the tiered avatars. I like them, they're fun, they add a little something-something. It always made me a bit sad that Alex and Dave never had tiered avatars, just standard ones. But, at the end of the day, if it's something they want to change, I certainly can't stop them.
To be honest, buzz_clik might actually be more than capable of drawing up some new avatars. He does do a lot of t-shirts that look great so I have no doubt he could whip up some avatars as well. There's a lot of talented artist/ cartoonist in the GB community that can probably create new ones for the whole crew.
Wow, why? That's a bummer. Agreed that it gave the reviews more personality.Nah, I mean they're gonna take those down soon anyway. Be happy with what you've got!

Then again, they would probably not want me to. Them being all serious and all and I'm being all sucky hardy at paint.
Why would they ask Buzz_Clik to do them when Turbo_Toaster has been doing the quest and bombcast icons?
They'll just get her to do new ones maybe?
I'm curious as to how they perceive the review cartoons as something that "give people the wrong idea" and will be sad to see them go. However, some of you are taking this to mean way too much.
I agree.@Mr_Skeleton said:

I disagree. To me, it's representative of the way GB is headed.
And I don't like it.
There really isn't any good reason for them to get rid of them. Ah well no big deal I guess but it is sad imo.

Or you know, they could make a community contest for making new ones and actually make it a fun thing. There are a hell of a lot of talented people here who did a lot of stuff for free. I love the site but stuff like this is always a bummer. Strangely I wouldn't mind review text going away entirely if it made more time for other stuff like TANG or a new ER. I really miss that stuff...
