So a few of us fellow GB users decided it would be cool to get together and make a podcast chatting about the a huge list of games that would make our top ten games of the year list.

Those chatting include: Ghostiet, CornBREDX, asian_pride, MajorMitch, Phatmac, and Bobby_The_Great

We started by running down a list of almost every single game that released from 2012. Seriously.

From there, we narrowed down the list to 43 games that we felt comfortable battling it out for the ten spots. The result, was a 6 hours (edited down to 5 hours) podcast of us trying to figure out which game it should be.

A few caveats:

  • This was done over Skype, so it's not the best sound quality.
  • Also, this was done with the mics each owner had, so again, be generous with the sound quality.
  • 5 hours is a REALLY long time, so I didn't have a chance to listen and edit EVERY minuet detail. Otherwise it would have never gotten out.
  • I think our list might cause some controversy, if you agree or disagree, be thoughtful in your comments below.
  • I find it odd almost how close our list was to this link: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/the-giantbomb-communitys-top-ten-games-of-the-year-for-2012/573612/#97
  • No, we didn't look at the link at all before making this.

So, I hope you enjoy, and I've tried my best to provide an MP3 for a 5-hour long podcast, and a Youtube upload, so pick your poison.

And most of all, I hope you all enjoy!

MP3 download (file size is about 110mb) = http://www.filedropper.com/giantbombcommunitygoty2012podcast

Also, please let me know if there are any "better" places to post the MP3 download, the file is too long for Soundcloud, Reverbnation and so on, so if you would like the file in another downloadable format, just let me know, please.

If you do not have time to listen:

And it was a result of over thirty days of almost daily conversation, planning and rehearsal in a twenty person PM that I was privy to be a part of because I'd said "YES I'D LOVE TO TALK INTO A MICROPHONE WITH YOU GUYS... but I've only played like 9 games so MAYBE NEXT YEAR!"

@Bobby_The_Great: Ya. I worked real hard on it. Lot of... my soul, and stuff.
It's definitely in my top ten best ms paints of all time. I think I'm gonna submit it to The Louvre... maybe the Smithsonian.

It's definitely a national treasure.

#20 Posted by CornBREDX (4793 posts) -
@Marz: No.
Especially that Cornbredx guy.

He's the worst! I think I'm gonna start a campaign against him.

I still can't get over the fact that Bobby and MajorMitch sound so similar. It's like Bobby's talking to himself. Or MajorMitch talking to himself. Either way.

Also, I still think the Spec Ops revelation is one of the best moments of that podcast.

#26 Posted by CornBREDX (4793 posts) -
@asian_pride: You're welcome =)
#27 Posted by asian_pride (1654 posts) -

@CornBREDX: Yeah actually. Thanks. Made me interested in checking out Jacob's Ladder. :)

#28 Posted by Bobby_The_Great (1002 posts) -

@asian_pride: Jacob's Ladder is one fucked movie. It's also a HUGE inspiration on videogames as a whole, namely Silent Hill and Twisted Metal: Black.

#29 Posted by asian_pride (1654 posts) -

@Bobby_The_Great: Oh man. That just makes me more interested to checking it out. I'm not so big on horror, but I'm willing to watch it based on how it's a main inspiration for Silent Hill.

I heard no mention of Little Inferno, I am disappointed!

But good from what I listened to so far.

Pretty much. This and concluding that my user name is pronounced "Ghostyeti".

Goddamn, you actually reminded me that I wanted to talk about that game.

Guys, we need to do a double.

#33 Posted by Yummylee (21242 posts) -

20 minutes in and this is surprisingly good. I think you do a solid job in hosting, Bobby_The_Great, and whomever is the one who has the strong European accent I enjoy listening to as well. I laughed out loud at the description of Cain from Binary Domain as some ''French James Bond Butler''.

We did bring it up in one of the preliminary discussions, but not enough of us had really played it. It is a cool game though, worth playing.

So, I just finished listening to all of it.
It seems to have come out fine.
I guess I need to play xcom- I hear it's pretty good

@Hizang: Ya, sorry, I haven't played it yet. I'll get to it eventually.
#37 Posted by Hizang (8534 posts) -

@Phatmac: @CornBREDX: It's one of my favourite games this year, it's a very similar experience to Journey, Braid and The Unfinished Swan.

#38 Posted by Phatmac (5721 posts) -
@Yummylee Thanks!

#41 Posted by GunstarRed (5022 posts) -

Listened to about 3 hours of it, I think whoever it is that is pumped about Black Ops has sold me more on playing that game than any of the reviews did.

#42 Posted by Phatmac (5721 posts) -
@GunstarRed you should really play it. It is surprisingly good!
#43 Posted by Legion_ (1254 posts) -

Only 5 hours?

I am 3 hours in right now. It's surprisingly good.

You know this is a amateur podcast when someone calls the combat in AC3 terrible. That actually made me turn this off. Sorry guys.

#47 Posted by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

how is this 5 hours?

#48 Edited by Ghostiet (5223 posts) -

@Bourbon_Warrior: We went through 43 games, some of which (Spec Ops, Guild Wars, Mass Effect) we got into really long conversations about, then we argued about which games should comprise the top 10 with a very heated argument between 4 particular titles and then we had a pretty long discussion what should be our proper GOTY. It's long, sure, maybe too long and maybe some games were completely not necessary on that list, but it's not exactly unwarranted if listened to.

#49 Posted by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

Ill give it a listen when Im doing some work

#50 Posted by Phatmac (5721 posts) -
@Legion_

Yeah, you're right! The combat has a perfect camera that doesn't make combat a chore! Also the series has always been known for its incredible combat! It hasn't been to easy or anything for the past couple if games in the franchise!
