Giant Bomb inside jokes.

After many months of forgetting about it I typed in rivalvideogamewebsite.com and fell about laughing when it redirected. Well played Giant Bomb, well played.

I then went to tell someone and realised that no one would properly get it appart from the GB community, and it's a simmilar story with all the t-shirts.

Have you ever had to try to explain a GB thing to 'outsiders'? What is your favourite Whiskey/GB meme or joke or whatever?

I've taken up the habit of saying "duder" a lot, and have had to explain where I picked it up a couple of times.

never explain an inside joke. ever. makes you look like a twat. just say "you had to be there" or "you wouldnt get it" or "its an inside joke" or something.

just remember, if you have to explain a joke, its not funny.

what? i'm completely serious. have you never had a joke, or inside joke more specifically, explained to you? it pretty much kills it. the best you'll get is "ahhh, ok, i get it now", or maybe they'll be polite and pretend its funny to them.

an inside joke is a contextual joke. without the proper context, a contextual joke loses its meaning. often times the inside joke is playing off some emotional context of previous knowledge, thus that emotional investment is paid off with contextual jokes later on. explaining it simply gives the person the context to understand the joke, not ot actually find it funny since they are not invested in it.

so yes. explaining an inside joke almost never works. like ever.

I do like to use duder quite a bit.

I have used duder, cunt (that count?), I of course use NAKED CARTOON PUSSY all the time, and batman batman batman(.com specifically) is always funny. The rest of them take a little bit more inside info I guess.

I kind of throw things out there to see if anyone I hang out with visits giantbomb, but it has never worked...

I tend to enjoy a majority of the Giant Bomb memes and inside jokes, but I have a preference toward the earlier stuff, and tend to actually really dislike it when it crosses the difficult-to-determine line into a Family Guy-esque sort of referential humor where it's not even really funny, it's just "a thing a guy said (on the internet), now on a T shirt." The memes these days seem more instantly monetized and it sort of loses something when it becomes a merchandise factory. The "I'm a Wizard" stuff is a good example of something really funny that was no longer funny the very next day.
 
I probably like the Never Girl bit the most. It stuck with me for some reason.

@Clonedzero: I'd think telling someone "you had to be there" and refusing to explain it would make you look like a much bigger idiot than explaining a joke to someone. This isn't a life or death type of choice.

I usually don't mention any of them around real life people. It just creates confusion and I don't really find them funny enough to throw out there.

I type/say "Good Luck, Have Batman" in nearly every multiplayer game I play these days. Some people get it, some people laugh regardless, and others are just thoroughly confused.

I use Duder instead of dude pretty regularly.

I also sometimes use the various GB memes as they are quite funny.

I think I've used some from time but can't think of any off the top of my head. But I was wearing my luchadeer shirt once and my friend actually called it luchadeer without knowing about Giantbomb which I though was funny.

I have a real life friend who uses GB and we tend to reference the site a bunch, sometimes without realizing it, we started using 'lo as a greeting and it took about four months for us to remember that we got that from the endurance run. Whenever someone asks about what we are talking about we just say that it's from Giant Bomb if they know what the site is or if they don't we say that it's from a website we use.

DJ Ungelvräl. I have to make a note of it every time I pass it in the store, and most of my friends has taken a liking to it.

Same here. It has become a very casual thing to say and I'm afraid those who don't know me well enough might assume I'm a "dude" and not a "duder".

I just direct people to the site if they want to know what the hilarity is all about. Otherwise, they don't want to know and I don't need to explain it any further.

I use "duder" and "biance" and my biance and I like to bust out Vinny/Peter Molyneux "Muh balls" to each other occasionally.

zambie isn't a giantbomb thing. people saying zambie has been around for ages, hell im pretty sure MST3K kept saying it throughout an entire movie.
