Giant Bomb IRC Chatroom has moved to a new server.

The Giant Bomb IRC channel has officially moved to #GiantBomb on irc.DeltaAnime.net .

 For Chatzilla users that is  irc://irc.deltaanime.net/giantbomb

We have switched over to a new server so that users will be able to properly register their nicknames on the server.  On the old server there were far too many cases of users switching to the name of another user and attempting to impersonate them.  On the new server this should no longer be a problem.  As long as you register your nickname.

Doing this is very simple.  Once you connect to the server you will choose a nickname by typing

/nick (your desired name)
Example: /nick JackThompson

/msg nickserv register (your password here) (your email address here)
Example: /msg nickserv register rockstarlove JackThompson@Disbarred.com

Now the name has been registered with whatever password you chose In the example above the password was "rockstarlove".  So in the future when connecting to the server you will have to "identify" whenever using that name, which is essentially the IRC form of logging in.  To do this you type.

/msg nickserv identify (password)
Example: /msg nickserv identify rockstarlove

If you do not identify (login) to the name within 60 seconds your name will be changed.  This is to prevent other users from using the registered names of others in an attempt to impersonate them. 

We are encouraging all regular users to register their names, although it is not a requirement to use the chatroom.  However if you do not register your name do not complain if someone else begins to use your name to make fun of you, you have been given sufficient notice and instructions on how to prevent this.

For those looking for an mIRC guide as to how to automatically log in every time:

1. Go to File, then click Select Server.
2. Click "Options" under "Connect"
3. Click the "Perform" button in Options.
4. Make sure you check off the "Perform on Connect" checkbox so that it is selected.
5. Make sure it says "all networks" in the Networks dropdown (this should be default)
6. In the "Perform Commands" box, type in

   /msg nickserv identify (password)

7. Click "OK"

Going to sticky this for the time being that way more people can get on the IRC and be apart of this extension to community chat and socialising etc.

For Chatzilla users you can bookmark the irc channel by putting irc://irc.deltaanime.net/giantbomb into your address bar and bookmark it as a page then when you wish to connect again you can just simply open your bookmarks and click it. Or alternatively just create a new bookmark and put that into the location / address box for the new bookmark and you can connect to it by opening your bookmarks and clicking it.

#GiantBomb is essentially an extension of the forum.  Racism and homophobia are not allowed.  If you use any words that fall under those two categories the bot is going to kick you, because there are users who will find them offensive.  The same as the forum.  If you were calling someone a "homo" every 10 posts on the forum, eventually you would get banned.

If you can't use a chatroom without the use of racist or homophobic remarks then you do not belong there.

Profanity is allowed.  Racist and homophobic terms are not.  If you are a racist or a homophobe then you will not like this, that's fine, Hulk is sure you will be happy on Xbox Live or a neo-nazi chatroom somewhere.

There is very little that is not allowed on the chat.  Hulk and the other ops let a million things slide every day on there.  Hulk is constantly getting PMs from people to the extent of "Wow I can't believe you're letting them get away with that."

Crying over the fact that 6 offensive words are not allowed in the chat says a lot about some of you.
