Giant Bomb named in 1up's "101 Best Video Game Sites"

It's always nice to see Giant Bomb getting recognition from other places for the great stuff that they do, as they just have been in 1up.com's 101 Best Video Game Sites. We all know Giant Bomb is great, but seeing other sites recognize that is always cool. They had this to say about GB:

Escapees from GameSpot established this up-and-coming site where gamers can help build a comprehensive videogame database and watch dudes eat junk food while they play lousy games. 

Now, 101 is a lot of gaming websites, and there are several questionable choices in there too, but I like that doesn't stop Giant Bomb's inclusion being somewhat awesome.

With 101 possible slots, they had damn well better be.

lolz i could make a game site and next year get on the top 101 list. seriously, it would take me an hour to even find 101 gaming sites on the web.

Considering there's 101 places, it would have been a crime to not include them.

Well, yeah. No shit. Someone name 101 best game sites right now without devolving into freebie blogs. With 101 slots, you have to have something as big as Giant Bomb on there.

With that many in the list, they must be throwing every piece of crap into the mix, like that intellectually disabled kid with the WWF belt that he spins all the time, like some ritalin kid. 
 
Also, didn't 1UP go tits-up about the same time as EGM? Since when are they still around? 
 
Of course, GamaSutra is near the top. Because navel-gazing pseudo-intellectual "look at me; I'm such a deep thinker!" is pretty tops in the press. Kotaku is in the list, why? I thought this was a list of the top gaming websites; not the top collections of cosplay photo galleries?

That's... kind of a weird thing for a gaming website to do.  Well, at least that's what I think.  It shows praise to fellow sites in the industry, but it's just so weird that I'd expect a list like that from a regular gamer or something and not a professional gaming website.  Especially given the fact that there are 101 of them listed.

101... uh-huh.

It would be funnier to see if they had numbered it, and put themselves number 1.

Granted, you need to be able to read Japanese to get the most out of this site, but it's the official site for Japan's weekly game news bible. Tons of great info here... if you can parse it. At least there's pictures!

They didn't number any of them because there site would have been underneath a lot of other sites like GiantBomb.

Okay, that's quite an odd list. Some nice choices, and quite a few that I don't know anything about. Page 6 is just kind of depressing though. "Remember all the former 1UP staff that you used to love? Here they are! Why the hell are we still working here?"

1up is a ghost town

I don't quite agree with their summary of Giant Bomb, it's not a perfect list and as has been said, with 101 sites on there it seems only fitting that Giant Bomb made the cut, but still it's good to know the word is being spread about the Bomb.

Not to shit on GB but being on that list isn't much....  
 
pogo.com is on that list. Newgrounds is on that list. Kotaku is on that list.

Why is a video game site ranking video game sites? I hate to be so harsh, but 1UP reviews were never that great, and there at the end when they changed the rating system it was like a last ditch effort to improve that I guess. Who even runs that place now? I thought they went "under". 

 I wasn't aware there were more than a dozen videogame sites. 101 is alot.

And I'm sure 101 blogs/message boards/comment sections are linking back to this article.

Were in the hell did they find 101 gaming sites to list?

I liked clicking on Scott Sharkey's page on the 1up Friends category. Since they have fired him in the past week he has started up a new site and they link to his site that hasn't been updated since 2007.
