Giant Bomb's 2011 Game of the Year Awards: Day One

Ryan's acting was too good for what he was parodying.

TV Vinny was confusing at first but so hilarious that I didn't need an explanation.

Skyrim is only a runner up. By my text I declare this top ten invalid.

Best year for soundtracks and music in recent years! On top of those Dead Space 2, Deus Ex, Gears, and Uncharted also had great music. It's really awesome.

I liked the single player campaign of Starcraft II, but the multiplayer still seems imbalanced compared to the original game. I'm interested in seeing what it will be like when all the episodes have been released.

HO LEE CRAP. Mad Dog Davis + Vinny's video editing skills = best giant bomb video yet?? That was a very unexpected surprise this morning. Thanks to all the bomb crew for getting that together. I'm probably more excited than should be allowed for the rest of the week's GOTY segments now.

You guys forgot to consider LA Noire and Binding of Isaac for the music category. Skyrim is just more remixes of Elder Scrolls songs.

I agree completely with the music choice.

Not that I disagree with the staff's reasoning, but I feel I need to point out that there is a pretty serious bug in SR3 during the deckers.die mission where the boss disappears during the final fight, and never returns leaving you eternally trapped in Tron world. I am assuming none of the guys experienced this bug, but for me it stripped a lot of the enjoyment of the level out, seeing how I had to do the whole thing an exhausting amount of time before I finally cleared the cache on my 360 and was able to get through it. Plus, I probably would edge out Murder Brawl just above it all else being equal, even if Murder Brawl is basically a nearly impossible-to-fail QTE. It just perfectly captured the thrill of professional wrestling, while tossing in just enough of that trademark Saints ridiculousness.

Dead Island has better combat than Skyrim? Ha ha! It doesn't even have better combat than DNF.

Forget "lump in the throat". I had tears in my eyes through the last few parts of Bastion, especially once that music struck up. It's just so damn beautiful. Good work Darren.

On the best level/mission, I would've liked to see a mention to the 'dream' sequence in the bog in Bastion. Or maybe I've become a Bastion fanboy.

Awww. I really was pulling for ilomilo for best music. I've never listened to anything that personified friendship and struck childhood feelings that well. Like when you had a great day out with your best friend and had to go home. It's so playful and fun yet melancholic and sad. It really is genius.

my 2010 2011 GOTY is Mass Effect 2. It came out for the PS3 early in 11, I had to check it out and I was lost in it.

Totally forgot about Avalon Centrifuge from LBP2 for best new character. Jeff seemed insistent early in the year he was pretty awesome. Too bad I doubt any of the other duders even touched a copy of LBP2!
