You know, I haven't played Limbo, but it was somewhat refreshing hearing Jeff not getting his will through for once.
Giant Bomb's Game of the Year 2010: Day One
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAuuugh...wait a minute, I need to know why I'm crying first..Well, Marston was a pretty well developed charactor, from the little Iv'e played so far. Actually for this category I would have very concievably gone for Francis York Morgan...and I would have tried to avoid mentioning DP in any other way. But all I could tell of Bayenetta was that she was a deliberate put on, and the whole sex thing was just her having fun and being something like ironic. Window dressing like her cheap clothes, something else was going on with her, that is why she really annoyed me whenever I heard her.
Ahhh, SC 2 found it's niche, and Brad won't be lurking in a corner now, wondering how he can call in the Zerg to have their way with the non-beleivers he must endure. I have to get back back to SC 2, like vinny I am a campaign man, and I was enjoying it, but I could also tell I didn't know how to play..I`ll start over. Also, thankyou staff for an acknowledgement of PC gaming, someday it will matter again, probably in the last years of the present generation of the PS-3 and Xbox 360 life.
" the music award is a joke right? its kinda catchy... but come on. "That's the one I have the strongest disagreement with as well. It was a fun intro, but Super Meat Boy has about 10 infectious, amazing tracks that never get old even through hours upon hours of dying.
The rest seem good to me - except I agree with Jeff that Limbo is incredibly overrated.
I think if Jeff had played Red Dead properly, then this entire GOTY thing would be very different.
Also wtf is up with Cataclysm not even being mentioned in the PC category?? Dont even pull that ''but its an expansion'' shit either, Its more of a complete game than 99% of what came out this year.
" Wow, way to encourage more pubescent thirteen year old boy games, with the awards to Bayonetta. And Pacman for song? It's almost like you guys didn't even PLAY Alan Wake. Old Gods of Asgard, anyone?! The riding-to-Mexico song in Red Dead, anyone? And Borderlands, because of DLC -- for which at least one of the three packs was classified as basically "not worth your time" by Giant Bomb quicklook/review? "Bayonetta is not a "pubescent thirteen year old boy game". It is a hard core character action game with more style and charm the most. Having a hot character does not automatically equal dumb, and if you played the game you should notice that Bayonetta is the strongest most badass female lead in a game ever. She is not a dumb bimbo showing skin to get ahead. She's more like a female chauvinist that just DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK. And that's why she is awesome. :)
I really hope that there was a last-minute change to the Best New Character award as I wanted Bayonetta to win. Also, I just want to hear the guys argue and jumping at each other's throats. :)
I don't get both Jeff's Bayonetta love and Limbo hate.
I played through Bayonetta, the character itself was okay and the game had some memorable moments but some parts of it were downright janky. Usually Jeff is quick to point out jankiness in a game but no mention of it when he talks about Bayonetta.
And for me, Limbo never got boring. Every puzzle was different and it was engaging till the end.
Oh well, opinions and taste.
Listening to the GOTY Day One Podcast and it's seems as though this artical is incorrect. The podcast gave character award to Mordin? I'm 35mins in so don't know whether they go back to it.
Other than that pretty much agree with these awards.
Normally I'm heavily a Brad guy but I feel like Jeff was right on today, especially with the debut stuff. The argument that Super Meat Boy is an incredible debut but Darksiders is too derivative is kind of laughable. It felt like from the start of the debut discussion Brad was trying to spin what the category even stands for after losing the first few debates.
And actually think Super Meat Boy deserves a spot - just not alongside Limbo. Dance Central probably deserves it more honestly but didn't win because Vinny can't dance.
Opposite for me." Thank God Bayonetta beat limbo, that games is ridiculously over-rated. Brad was actually starting to annoy me. "
I found Bayonetta kinda lacking (some gameplay mechanics were janky) and Jeff kinda annoyed me a little bit in this discussion.
edit: I still love him of course %)
Jeff said on Twitter that he doesn't know why Bayonetta beat Mordin for best character. They'll figure it out.
Not a chance RDR is getting goty on GB." @SparkleMotion: Considering that game is probably going to get game of the year (oh wait it actually did in the VGAs), don't see the big deal. "
It's going to be ME2 or Bayonetta judging from Jeff's and Ryan's (blind) love for the game.
" @TwoOneFive said:I will 100% disagree with you. That Pac-Mac CE DX menu music is about 100x more addictive than anything in Super Meat Boy. Having played through all of Meat Boy and getting an S rank in DX, I would still say that the DX menu music is superior." the music award is a joke right? its kinda catchy... but come on. "
Meat Boy on the whole has better music, but on a track by track comparison, the DX menu music is king.
Hmm, strange to see that John Marston wasn't even mentioned in the best character category. Other than that, not too surprised by the choices.
