From the list above, which decade would you rather live in?

Personally, I'd probably go for the 60's or the 80's. 60's because it seems like society was just a lot more civil back then. It was just a whole lot more class before, and I often find myself nostalgic over a time and place that I didn't even experience.

As for the 80's, that's basically the period all my favorite games, films and TV series are set. Vice City, Miami Vice, Magnum P.I. and on and on. Keep in mind though, that I'd only want to live in Miami or Hawaii.

Edit: Fuck it. I'm so sloppy with putting my topics in the right sections. Can a moderator please put this in the Off-Topic section? Thanks.

I'm pretty happy about living in the present, because flush toilets and mouthwash.

No option for future?

I think I'd fit in well with the 2050's.

The 90s were pretty cool, as were the 20s. Tough choice.

@MattGrant: I hear that. A condition would of course be that you were not aware of future inventions. You'd live in your chosen time period, and know just as much as about the future as everyone else. No more, no less.

I'd choose the 90's, that was when I grew up but I think it would be a great decade to live in during my college years.

Actually kind of tough, I voted 50's but I would not have minded the 40's or 80's at all. In fact I think being a "20 something" would be pretty great in the 80's.

The people are so much nicer in the future. It's a good thing the concept of dystopian futures doesn't exist or I'd be pretty boned.

It's a toss between the 80s and 90s, but I would have to say the 1990s; the time of innocence where the music was waaay better, sitcoms that weren't all about sex, MTV was all about music, movies utilizing animatronics, TV shows that everybody can watch, celebrities with REAL talents, and more. Sigh! I miss those days.

I like the time we live in now. I voted 1910's because I assume in this situation I would keep all the knowledge that I currently have and could use my superior knowledge of things to my benefit.

@Psykhophear: Man, I have to disagree. Personally, I always look at the 90's like the beginning of the end. Only thing that's worth remembering from the 90's is the rap music. Rap/hip hop from the early 90's is so much better than today. NWA, Tribe Called Quest and Warren G are proof of just that.

Current decade. There is nothing about the past that interests me from the point of view of wanting to actually live during that time. I wouldn't mind popping back to the past for a vacation or something, but living, no, the present is fine for that. I like the internet.

@Legion_: Lol, what are you talking about? There are plenty of stuff that's worth remembering from the 90s aside from music. Majority of today's video games originated from the 90s (ie. Warcraft, Starcraft, Mortal Kombat, Command & Conquer, Quake, System Shock, etc.), cartoon shows that influenced a generation or two (Batman TAS, Tiny Toons, Darkwing Duck, X-Men), and movies (Terminator 2, The Matrix, Toy Story, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Lion King, Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park). I have fond memories of the past because of all these goodies. You sure you're from this planet?

Is this me at my current age going back to live in that decade? When the decade is over, does it continue into the next one, or does it reset like some 10 year long Groundhog Day?

I could have some real fun in the '40s as well, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Right now...

All those other decades already existed and living right now we get to reap all the benefits. Plus, now you can instantly watch anything you loved from the 90s...back then once it was off the air it was gone forever.

I also don't get the mentality that music was better in "so and so" decade...that's because you only remember the good and not the terribly bad music that existed all over those decades...there's bands doing things today that others wouldn't have even dreamed of then. If you went by that mentality we should've stopped listening to music around the early 1800's because no one will ever compare to Beethoven.

And to the first poster, I love how they called the 60's a "more civilized decade"..yes, a more civilized decade that had civil rights movements enveloping the country because black and whites couldn't sit in the same classrooms.

Yea sure a decade that gay people were looked on as wierdo's and freaks, a decade in which we had to run around behind closed doors just to have a kiss. No thanks.

60's were turbulent as hell if history class taught me anything. The JFK assassination, the whole Vietnam war, Civil Rights movement, Cuban Missile Crisis, start of the Cold War, etc. On the flip side, conflicts like those really changed things up, well obviously conflicts do breed more change. Some changes for the better, some for the worst, just like all conflict do.

Anyways, I picked the 1920s, because the roaring 20s just seemed like everyone was looking to have a good time. Seeing everything we see as normal, such as cars, phones, films, and other things starting to become prominent in society would be really interesting. Then again, end of the 20s, is the Great Depression and I don't exactly want to live in that period.

Take me to the jazz. Let's call it 1955 to 1965.

Men wore tired suits, the US government played with LSD, art splashed from the galleries onto the everyone, and whitey started blinking away weary prejudices. And we still had David Niven and Cary Grant.

I'd go back to the 80's and get rich off sports betting.

The 40s might've had a war, but at least you're not living through the great depression. Jeeze.

The present is the best, since we can use the Internet to reap the culture from the past.

However, if I had to choose, the 80's or Roaring 20's. I wouldn't want to around in the 60's because of wars and shit.

The Roaring 20's was probably amazing for Americans.

@Psykhophear: Take it easy, cowboy. I'll give you Pulp Fiction, because that's one of my favorite movies of all time. Still, I'm not high on the 90's. Just so much of the movies, clothes, music and general style that really doesn't appeal to me.
